Photographer’s Note

Yesterday I posted a picture of the staircases of the Contemporary Art Museum of Niterói. It’s famous because its spaceship shape and also because was designed by one of the most famous architects of Brazil: Oscar Niemeyer.

Today I wanted to show you the splendid view from inside the Museum. There is an observation gallery following a band of picture windows around the outside circumference, inviting patrons to gaze on Rio, the Sugarloaf, Guanabara Bay, and the city of Niterói itself.

As a gallery, however, the museum has drawbacks. Circular buildings are inherently difficult to make functional.
