Photographer’s Note
Here's a style that I bet a lot of people have forgotten. Shorts on outside, especially when roller staking. A from under the Broadway El, near Riverdale. Yes, I know I could have framed this better, but they'd just stopped for a moment.

hi richard, this is a pearl in our te gallery; i simply love this old fashioned, extremely contrasted photo;
deep bow - this type of pics are practically absent here and it is a pitty as - like this one - they present a really forgotten world;
excellent stuff;
best wishes, jerzy

Hi Richard - wow, the fashions and car models scream of the seventies, the grain and BW also add nostalgia. I lived in NYC until 1997, roller skating was a popular activity even then, and I bet it is now. The terrain of Seattle and San Francisco, where I've been living since then, makes it VERY dangerous for roller skaters. Short on outside...??? well, we can be thankful that one trend has not made a comeback.

wow...this reminds me of AL Pacino, and I can't really remember why. Perhaps the scenery is related to one of his movies..."Carlito's way", perhaps...just regret the VW on the foreground...you could have found something much more "american" to portrait the New York automobile history....

Hi Richard, A good historic document photo, especially because of the B&W process. The picture looks old, the style of the bridge looks old, and the cars parked down the street looks like 50's. Good shot, nice PP. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Richard,
Wow,
this is real retro,
the clothes and the cars, a real blast from the past, the black and white plus the boise only make it better,
well done,
Regards

This is great. I got my first skates at age five, five years after this shot was taken, and I still love skating. However the skates are not what makes this great, it's the way it looks like we've steppede in a time macjine, and it is great that the grain and contrast is probably real... ( For the record I know that colour films had seen the light of day in 1980, and that the grains were not actually on the streets and people's clothes ;o)

I like the gritty and classic look of this one, Richard. Nice moment with the skaters making a brief stop, and a good industrial structuring element provided by the El. I also like the VW Beetle with the haphazardly attached license plate, and I almost enjoy that on the sidewalk there seem to be some pre-Giuliani traces of litter. Very nice find from your archives.
