Vianden (Hôtel V. Hugo) Photo

Photographer’s Note

Au cœur de la vallée de l'Our et du petit Grand-Duché, Vianden est un des plus beaux sites du Luxembourg et par-là depuis longtemps déjà une destination touristique renommée.

On fait dériver le nom de la ville de Vianden du mot gaulois "vien" qui signifie rocheux. Déjà en l'an 1256, Vianden est citée comme ville, mais c'est seulement depuis la lettre de franchise de 1308 que Vianden porte légalement le titre de ville.

Au pieds du château, remontant au XIe siècle et siège des puissants comtes de Vianden, la ville descend en étroites rues moyenâgeuses vers l'Our alors que les anciens remparts enceindent ses bâtiments historiques:

l'Église des Trinitaires construite en 1248 avec ses merveilleux cloître gothique,

l'Hôtel de Ville construit en 1679

la maison Victor Hugo habitée en 1871 par le poète exilé

l'Église St. Nicolas érigée au XIIIe siècle.

Entre 1862 et 1865 Victor Hugo s'est senti à l'aise comme touriste dans le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg, en 1871 il y a été accueilli comme réfugié politique. Depuis, son souvenir est resté vivant en Luxembourg et spécialement à Vianden.

Bonsoir Daniel,
A great world french writer and very persectued by his allways vision and his show social important things in life by is creative way. "Les Miserables" is form my begining life a forbidden work in Portugal. But changing of matter, you have here a nice and confort hotel in a excelent view and enquadrement that show us a nice tribute to "V.Hugo" in a nice and humain soul way.

THanks for sharing and my critique is not emotional, is a tribute to both.

You taken a very beautiful architecture picture, you chose the perfect angle, very nice composition with excellent colours, great sharpness and clarity, maybe Daniel I would a 2cm to the righthand cropped, I find this small part a little disturbing.
But absolutely a very good picture.

Very historical and pretty. I like the way the bridge leads over the river. The other buildings to the right in the distance are very nice too. The exposure is nice and the composition works very well.

Bel ensemble bien présenté et instructif avec la note bien documentée. pour le cadrage, fallait-il laisser deviner l'arche du pont ou la couper ? Je n'ai pas vraiment la réponse, on aurait envie de voir les deux versions.

Beutiful picture and fascinating architecture. The composition with the bridge, the hotel and a group of houses in the same color is very nice. However, the valve of the bridge make me curious of what the river looks like. I am sure you will come back to that. A really great job!

beau panorama de cette hotel cossu, de style typique du duché, la ville est effectivement visité car on voit des touristes prendre des photos, c'est vrai que le pont aurait peut être mérité soit d'être plus apparant pour une vue plus globale, mais peut être allons nous avoir une autre photo d'un autre angle

Le cadrage est parfait pour rendre compte du patrimoine architectural de Vianden. Les couleurs douces, les détails, l'hôtel Victor Hugo, le pont, tout est présent pour donner à cette composition une réussite.

Wow Daniel this really turned out nice. Everything is so crystal-clear and sharp. You could use a super wide-angle to capture some more of that beautiful arch of the bridge. Excellent shot Daniel!!

Tiens je ne savais pas que VH s'etait exile au Luxembourg, deja lui aussi trouvait qu'on paye trop d'impots en France !!!
J'aime bien ici la statue sur le pont qui fait face a cette imposante batisse, elle pourait peut etre permettre des cadrages interessants avec un grand angle. SUe ce point de vue ci, je me pose la meme question que Jean au sujet des arches du pont, je suppose qu'il y a une bonne raison ?

A well composed shot of this great structure. I like the golden colours of the brick and stone here and your POV. The slice of bridge in the foreground is clearly seen and is in perfect proporiton to the rest of the scene. The clarity is superb, and the people warm the photo. A very fine capture. Well done.
