Afternoon Shadows Near the Old Volcano Photo

Photographer’s Note

These mountains appeared on our way north from St. Tropez to Nice, near the town of Saint-Raphael at the French Riviera.

They are called "golden", due to the reddish-orange color, that was gained due to the volcano's lava. There used to be a volcano eruption here a long time ago.

The sea on the right side is gorgeous; this was one of the most beautiful places on the whole shore along this road, even though the whole ride is very, very picturesque.

Hi Irina,

very beautiful composition of a very scenic landscape. The walking people below are working very well in the picture. The colors are accented by the low sun. Good job.

Hello Irina, I love the rich colours of these mountains. The composition with the nearer mountain to the right and the more distant and less contrasted peaks behind. The people make for an interesting addition to the bottom of the frame.

The light really is hitting these mountains at the right time here. They're soft and beautiful. The textures also add to that with their weathered down roughness. Also the curving path sort of going in and further drops out anything hard. The only thing I would rather not see are the people. Only because they make everything seem so small. Without them this setting would look so much bigger since we would have to imagine a scale of our own using only the wall of the road. But that's more of a personal preference I think. Nicely photographed and good handling of the light which furthers the depth here.
