Photographer’s Note
AYMINY (A Yorkshire Man In New York) is a series of shots I took on a short visit to New York.
This is my My 17th post and one of a number of shots taken on the Brooklyn bridge (on the pedestrian walkway which is above the road - hence the view).
This particular one I view as an 'establishing shot' perhaps with too much detail for some, but I like the complexity...
I am also posting shots of New York on my TrekLens site.
The following has been taken from the net.
The following is based on a chronology compiled by Barbara Head Millstein, for the brooklyn bridge exhibition, 1983.
1802 A petition to the State Legislature proposes constructing a bridge.
1857 A bill is proposed to the New York Legislature to build a suspension bridge over the East River to Brooklyn.
1865 John A. Roebling and Wilhelm Hildenbrand draw plans.
1866 A bill is passed by the New York State Legislature for construction.
April, 1867 The New York Bridge Company is incorporated.
May, 1867 The New York Bridge Company makes John A. Roebling engineer.
1869 President Ulysses S. Grant signs a bill approving the plan.
July, 1869 John A. Roebling 66, dies in an accident making observations to determine the exact location of the Brooklyn tower. His son, Washington Roebling, succeeds him.
January, 1870 Work begins.
May, 1871 The New York caisson is launched. Although the Brooklyn foundation hit bedrock at 44 feet, the foundation on the Manhattan end rests on sand at 78 feet.
1872 Roebling is stricken by caisson disease, becoming an invalid. He supervises the building of the Bridge from his bedroom, his wife instructing the Bridge engineers.
1874 The Brooklyn Bridge is made public, repaying the subscribers with interest.
May, 1875 The Brooklyn tower is completed.
July, 1875 The New York tower is completed.
1877 A temporary footbridge between the towers is built.
1887 Scandal over the supply of faulty wire
May 24, 1883 The Brooklyn Bridge is opened.
During its construction twenty-seven men died, including its designer, John A. Roebling.

Hi Stephen
Fabulous perspective. The colours & sharpness are excellent. How did you get up on the bridge like that? It looks like you're climbing on the scaffolding!

Stephen,
Great shot, excellent POV. Strong colours, and the image is very sharp. Was this shot from a viewing gantry or did you get permission to climb?

Good one Stephen - I really like this one - a great sky and I too like the complexity of this overlay of wires on the scene behind - really nice colour and clarity throughout the image and the timing with the car is good too to help us get the bridge into scale and perspective ....and then there is that open space behind the arches - this is such a nice escape route after all the information on the left.
best wishes Kev

Great pattern of lines with the cables of the bridge. I know this has been photographed a lot, but this is special for 3 reasons: first of all the point of covergence is pushed far to the right side of the frame, giving this a dynamic look; secondly, I like the gorgeous view of the city through the cables, the lighting is extraordinary and beautiful; lastly, the car visible in the bottom of the frame gives this a sense of place and purpose. This is truly great work!

Absolutely fantastic PoV, I can't quite see how the walkway works, I wish I realised you could get there last time I was in town.

A good angle on the iconic bridge, Stephen. Nice perspective impression built by the corridor of lines and cables, and a nice showing of the lower Manhattan skyline in the background, with a particular ambience in the afternoon light. Excellent clarity and a good work balancing the sharpness in this one - easy to get wrong with such an amount of cables and delicate details but you did fine. - Added to my BB theme.

Hi Stephen,
Fantastic angle of view and perspective to this world known bridge. Sureally is one of the best that I ever seen in this approaching angle. Splendid light, colors, details, graphic textures and a excelent sharpness.
Very very good work. Congratulations and have a nice weekend.

Hello, Stephen. Well, there are lots of lines and cables here and some people could commplain about that. But I think they add an interesting perspective to your photo. I like the two different types of the sky which seem to be placed over the bridge and the skyscrapers, giving unity to the two different parts of your picture.
