Cacilhas – Old Crane & Warehouses
This pic was captured also in Cacilhas, a few hundred meters from the place where I captured O Seixalense. Displayed is a row of decrepid and largely deserted industrial buildings and a very rusty man powered crane between the ferry terminal and the 25 April bridge.
The oldest buildings are from the end of the 17th century. Wines, vinegars and olive oil were stored there before it was shipped to Lisboa by boat. Later on industrial activities like fish canning were introduced.
Due to the building of the bridge most activities ended since it was easier to take the goods by truck to Lisboa then by ship. Recently a warehouse was put to use again for a small experimental theater company, but this was only for a short while.
It was fascinating to walk along the old and deserted quay and examine all the old industrial artefacts and imagine the hustle and bustle that must have been there before the Tejo was spanned by the bridge.
In the background is of course Lisbon with the hill of the St. George Castle as most dominant feature.
The usual PCS2 tech: removed the slight tilt and cropped; contrast, levels, curves & saturation (differentially) adjusted; altered the exposure of assorted elements; applied the burn tool to some elements; USM-ed; added a frame and saved for the web.

gLORIOUS LIGHT YOU HAVE IN THIS PHOTO. oops caps were on. The rusty thing reaching into the sky has a wonderful texture. The light on the wall and structures is great and it gives it a wonderful warm glow. Nice perspective too. Nice shadows too.

Hello Bert. Good POV over this pier in Cacilhas. Although they seem far, we can still see the Pantheon and St Vincent's monastery in the background on one of Lisbon's hills. Good contrast of colors and well saturated image.

Hello my dear friend Bert
That's a fantastic and so authentic shot. I like the golden color of the sunlight, the magnificent framing and the fine depth when we follow the line of the harbor. Excellent shot. Like a cardpostal!
Best regards from Chalkis

Hoi Bert,

Great filling of a frame! In the same move you make depth and a brutal cross-over. Although your note is good, I don't need it to value this as very good; a favorite for me.
Thanks Bert

Serwus Bert !
Extraordinary composition and amazing one !
I'm impressed by Your great eye for such elements of the environment. This solid crane, and especially its shadow, really make this image very interesting. And even it is wonderful marine scenery, it has also unique industrial mood. Excellent Work !
Be well,

Hej Bert,
Prachtige foto met prettige kleuren. Ik vind het erg mooi hoe je de kraan op de voorgrond hebt geplaatst. De lichtval is ook prima, veroorzaakt een mooie schaduw. Prima werk.
Groeten,

Hi Bert, nice perspective, very peaceful and attractive atmosphere. I like the old crane and its shadow, especially the shadow is so nice, and the row of warehouses takes us deeper into the picture.
You couldn't get enough of old harbour cranes, could you?

Hi Bert. A beautiful harborside compo with the industrial elements providing a fine compositional interest. Especially the rusty crane provides a good element here, not to forget its shadow pointing towards the front of the old buildings. The city in the background is very well included and placed in the compo that is also delightful due to its handling of colors and light. Well done.

Very impressive composition, Bert - the diagonal of the rusty crane, the lovely effect of its shadow, along with the great perspective on the old buildings combine to create a wonderful scene. Super texture, colour and light.

Great composition, Bert, I love the positioning of the crane and the way the arm points to the top corner. The buildings sweep in from the right leading the eye into the frame. The orange patches on the building in the middle distance match the rust on the crane, a pleasing touch.

Hi Bert,
A very geometric shot, where straight lines and an excentered vanishing point combine very well together. The rusty structure of the crane and the water surface also lead to an excellent balance, provided that there is also a warm/cold tone opposition. Excellent composed, with Lisbon in the background it's obviously much more than just a graphic shot! Excellent work Bert!

Hoi Bert,
