Photographer’s Note

The temple Angkor Wat in Cambodia
was already a dream for us for many years.

ANGKOR - the domicile of the Gods!
These temple of the lost Khmer culture is the biggest
sakrale building of the world - some call it the
8. World miracle. Originally build as mausoleum it should symbolize the center of the world.
Angkor Wat, built in the early part of the twelfth century by the Angkor ruler Suyavarman II is a Hindu temple.
Its central sanctuary housed an image of Shiva, the
god with whom the king was said to be one.
Three concentric galleries enclose the central sanctuary, rising as one approaches the center of the complex. At the end of the 16th century this big empire break down.

We went to the most important temple
Angkors in the early morning. That was an experience, we went through a forest, no tourists, only the chirp of the birds around us.
And then we saw the central tower between the trees.
First we wandered through the lower arcades and
we were amazed because of the gigantic reliefs
with pictures of past cultures and days.
A floor higher you can decide to climb up to the
highest point - but if you see the "stairs" - perhaps
you will change your mind - it's so dangerous.
In the past, the upper range was reserved only for the kings and priests. When I went up, i felt into panic, my legs turned to jelly and I grumbled myself that I was so silly, to do such dangerous things!
But the view was grandios - with a little cloud - I had to go the same distance down! We met 3 young monks and they told us of their lifes, of members of their familis who were killed on the fields by land mines, which originated from the times of the civil war and Pol Pot and its Red Khmers.

I hope you like this view from the back of Angkor with two Angkor-kids.
