Photographer’s Note

This has to be one of my favourite beaches in the world. Last time I was in the area around sunset, I was taking pictures of La Vielle, so this time, as I could see there was some decent swell, I decided to do something a little different, and went down to the beach at Baie des Trépassés. If I'm not mistaken, this translates as The Bay of Lost Souls, and is listed in most of the surf guides for Europe. I've been fortunate that on both occasions that I have been there, the surf has been up - I don't know if this is always the case, and certainly in Ireland, swell of this size is rather rare in August.

Anyway, the angle of the sun was such that I couldn't do anything much with any of the lighthouses, and as a result, started working with the cliffs that rise up to I think it's the Pointe du Van, but I'm not absolutely sure.

The sun was not wholly cooperative to my needs position wise, but that's the sun for you. Of the pictures I took that evening, this is probably my favourite - depending on your screen you might find it a bit dark.

When you live in an area, you tend to get a very good feel for photographing it, of knowing what will work, and I'm afraid that with a location where I might be able to go at most once or twice a year, this is something that will take a while. I love the area though and hope that this picture does its beauty some justice.
