Photographer’s Note
The Cathedral in Brasov, can't give any details about history or age, I guess it's 14th-16th century something? Brasov is Romanias second city, but the old part is in a narrow valley so it can be seen as a separate small town, the newer parts are out on the plains to the left in picture. Brasov is one of the old german cities in Transylvania founded in the middle ages (don't remember the german name though).
The picture is taken from a lookout tower overlooking the city. It isn't as good as it could be since I used my small APS-camera, but I still think one can imagine what this picturesque town is like.

The German name of the town was "Kronstadt". Before that it was, amongst other names, called "Stephanopolis".
Hope this has been of help.

Nice pic. A good overview of this old city. Would like to go to some place like this to have some photoshooting session too. Just too bad that the left area of the pic is slightly more exposed to the sunlight i guess. Overall looks like a painting to me.

Brasov was first known as Corona (year 1235) and was situated first at the present location of this Cathedral. The city had during the times a couple of names as “mortijo” mentioned : Stephanopolis, Kronstadt, Brasov. The last two are the best known. At the beginning 13th century the Saxons (German population coming from the region of Rhein and Mosel) colonised the region of Brasov, finding here a strong Romanian community.
The construction of the gothic building started in 1383 and was nearly destroyed during the first invasion of Turks in 1421. The Cathedral is known as “The Black Church” due to the great fire in the year 1689 which distroyed most of Brasov, distroyed the roof of the church, blakened the walls, but didn’t destroy the magnificent building which is today the main touristic atraction in the medieval center of Brasov . The reconstruction process took another 100 years.
The church houses one of the biggest organ in Southeast Europe with 4000 pipes and is renown for its wonderful sound. The oragn was built in 1836-1839 by master Buchholz (Berlin). The church has also the heaviest bell in Romania (6 tons).
