Photographer’s Note
So who was Alida? Everyone agrees that she was a beautiful slave girl who caught the eye of her owner, much to the consternation of the mistress of the plantation. In a jealous rage, the mistress cut off one of Alida's breasts and served it to her husband at dinner in a silver chafing dish.
Well quite a story but during the slavery this was how they treated the slaves, and sometimes I think not much has changed in 150 years.
My other photo I posted about the slavery monument, this photo is taken at the same place, you see how women dressed in these days. Well this was of course because they didn’t want to end like Miss Alida, she survived by the way. So they hide their body underneath a big dress.

It's a very sharp and crisp image, the brightness of colours is superbe, and I like the perfect framing, as well as her "Mona Lisa" like smile...
Very well done Hans!

Hi Hans - quite a fantastic portrait, and a sad and strange story. The light and colours are outstanding.

Hoi Hans,
Absoluut goede foto.
