Photographer’s Note
This picture was taken at the dairy measurement station of the VPSS Udyogwadi in Valod. That morning we filmed the processes that went on there from tribals arriving on foot and by bicycle with their milk, to pouring and measurement and payment and some interviews, we then, later in the day followed the milk through to the Sumal milk processing plant to capture processes and some interviews there. We also interviewed people running village level co-operatives.
Lastly we interviewed an old friend, who is a tribal and a former MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) to the district - he said "All of this production of milk you see, it brings so much good to this area, upliftment of the poor tribals, this is what you see.....but just think, this milk, where does it go? It is transported to the cities, bagged or made into ghee and of all this milk none of it is seen by our own children, they don't have a single drop to drink!"
Made me think again about all of this - as he has enabled me to think about quite a lot of things from a different perspective.
I liked this woman's motion - I was able to predict that she would do this as she was getting ready to leave after depositing her milk - I think she was the best dressed (and certainly the most colourful) person there.
Those of you that know the story will know that I went to India without a camera because of the need to concentrate on filming and the equipment for it - I couldn't help but take still images on a picture button on a small SVHS camcorder - quality not so good! Many I took thinking about making paintings at some time - a sketchbook - this is one of those images.
My PP on this one - which I hope isn't too excessive, was really quite simply to apply the dry brush filter in PS on maximum brush fineness - I smudged a few of the background areas to make them more continuous surfaces but without going heavily into reducing the effects of the dry brush.
I only apply this where the result isn't that much different from the original - in fact if you sit back another couple of feet from the computer you wouldn't see much difference with the original - I like to do this though to remove the banding of the SVHS tape and it does (to my mind ) provide a different and slightly more acceptable image quality.

I like this a LOT, Kev. We'll have to say that the low res results in a painterly paste here that is not without appeal. It's really a p;ainting we're looking at now, and a pretty damn good one at that. Also the grainy, pasty blur adds dynamism to her movement. tasty! Francis

G=Hello Kev,
this picture looks like a painting, I like very much the colors and the portrait of this woman with the sari. You have caught something anonymous and beautiful.

Hi Kev,
This is really like a water-colour painting.. soo nice..
i love her pose here too, actually this is one of my aims in India; just trying to achieve some kind of diffused melted, impressionistic kind of colours without sacrificing the quality, (so -with a high resolution camera i mean, lol)
Great one, i think you should make a painting for this..
have a nice weekend.

Hi my friend!
I love this photo! It looks like an oil paiting full of color.
I like her pose too. Great note too... it's really sad that their children don't drink milk nor even a single drop :(
TFS the photo and the note.
Take care,
Susana

hi kev, back home and glad you are so active: and another awesome low-res piece of the series; great compo - one may say its nothing, the other may say - the whole life of that woman (and people around her) is there in this picture; i'm always the 2nd :-))

Like an aquarel indeed and you anticipated very well in the PP to get the most out of this shot. Very well done.

Hi Kev. Ok, I'll say that my feelings on this are divided really. I look at the shot and I know I like the composition, the scarf and her gaze and her elbow all going backwards. I have to say though I don't think I've bought into the brush filter competely. Just a mental block on photography vs graphic arts, I think which really more about personal views, but that's just me. It is very cool looking though.

Good composition too! Well done!
