Photographer’s Note
In 1496 King Manuel I petitioned the Holy See for permission to build a large monastery at the entrance to Lisbon on the banks of the Tagus River. Construction of the Jeronimos monastery began in 1501 and the work was finished about a century later in the Belem district.
You can see here a view of the inner courtyard, taken from the 1st floor on a 40° june afternoon (don't worry, I stayed in the shade ;-) )
You can see the elaborated and unique Manueline architecture, a combiantion of architectural elements of the late Gothic and Renaissance periods, associated with the symbols of the king, Christianity and the natural world.

Salut Jean Yves
Good use of linear perspective & repetition in the composition. I like the v shaped angle of the building, & the man adds context & provides scale. Ayez un grand dimanche!

Good morning Jean,
Interesting enquadrement and angle of view, giving us a linear approach. Excelent management of light. Clear photo with good sharpness. The man adds scale and a humain factor element to this very well captured composition.
Very well done and seen!
Have a nice weekend.

40 degrees? Im dying when its 30! I hate such heat. You can see the dryness and the heat in the photo. I like the POV on the corner and the solitary figure escaping the opprssive hell of the summer. The dry fountain adds to the effect of the heat.

Hi Jean,
Beautiful repetition of the arches and the small arches within the big ones. It looks like our weather here. I like the shot with one side bright and the other side subdued due to the shadows. It's like the different loudness of a piece of music. Well done!!! Regards and a nice weekend.

Bonjour Jean Yves, a beautiful and impressive architecture conveyed very well by your photo. Very nice perspective overlooking the courtyard, the man add some scale to the composition. I'm really impressed by the rich, exquisite ornate carvings depicted on this building. Beau travail! Have a nice day!

Salut Jean-Yves!

Splendid old architecture, Jean-Yves, well presented from an ideal point of view. Good exposure in the strong sunlight without any blown-out details, and a nice add from the walking person in the foreground.

Salut Jean-Yves.

Hi Jean-Yves. Good light management in what seems like incredibly bright conditions. That guy in the courtyard seems overdressed considering the weather. The person is a great add and brings the shot to life. Very nice one Jean-Yves!

Hello PT - wonderful geometry , beautiful architecture, excellent perspective. Being so close to the cool Atlantic I did not think it would get so hot in Lisbon.

Hi Jean Yves, A well taken picture. From the pattern of the ground we can guess the courtyard is a square symmetric one. The blue sky makes a nice contrast to the building. A nice picture with clarity and sharpness. Well done.

Hello Jean Yves,

Well composed and skilfully presented, Jean Yves. The angles of the inner courtyard catch the eye, and all is enhanced by the central circle, the colour of which co-ordinates with the background. Crisp and clear, well ordered and effective. Well done.

ha looks almost like a baseball diamond! With the pitchers mound in the middle and bases around the sides!
Seriously though you did well to get the man in, people go on about human interest shots, and how havng people in your photos makes them better, I think that when your trying for photos like this you initially dont want anyone in the photo, but then when you sit back and see something like this you think that maybe it is ok for a few well placed people who can make the photo more interesting!

Salut Jean
Part I
Additional information: . The Manuelino style has one important detail: it’s nautical elements, like ropes, “caravelas”, stars, astrolabes... To remember the Portuguese Discoveries.
PartII
A very good framing, putting a person on corner, gives to the place his real dimension.
The building is fantastic, the Manuelino style is very rich in details/elements and we can see them. Its just a little bit over-expose.
Very good note, you are a real "connaisseur du monde"
Très Bien

This is one of the best photos I’ve seen from the Jerónimos cloister. Not only the POV is very well chosen as it shows a wide view, as well the light and clearness let us explore the wonderful details of this magnificent place.
