Photographer’s Note
As I was writing in the profile of my previous post, Viktualienmarkt in the center of Munich is a tourist magnet. The place has nevertheless preserved a certain authenticity, and many locals mix among the tourists. Sounds weird, doesn't it, one would expect the tourists to mix among the locals... But Munich is likely the most international city in Germany.
Watching these gentlemen enjoying a beer in traditional Bavarian costumes, it crossed my mind that they could be on the pay lists of the municipality of Munich. Plenty of tradition appeals to tourists. Probably I was wrong though, Bavarians are very attached to their costumes.
The most spectacular piece is definitely the bundle of hair on the hat, the "Gamsbart", which means "Goat's beard". It is actually the shoulder hair of the chamois, and it supposingly costs these days many hundred euros. I actually thought it comes from the wild boar, but it doesn’t.
This one picture goes for Francis (Furachan) who complained that images of Europeans and North Americans are underrepresented on TE.

Yes, quite a spectacular hat, well done. I am not too sure about the depth of filed. Should the second man also be infocus as he is quite an important part of the composition. If not, maybe a little less focus and not so obvious. Hard to say.

Great bit of local flavor. Focus on the man on the left could be sharper, but judging by his Gamsbart, he must be a "second banana". TFS.

Nostalgy nostalgy... I spent the best year of my life last year in Munich as part of an Erasmus exchange. Traditions are still pretty strong in Munich, and people there are very proud of being bavarian. Anyway, I like this photo because it recalls me of a great time in a great city, and these clothes were the thing that "schocked" me when I arrived, but that I now find very classy. Women in Trachten look always good, especially the young ones of course ;o)

The characters and the costumes are very interesting. The front person shows very nice detail and sharpness. I too question about the DOF. It is OK but not very ideal. :)
