Here you can see the engines room that manage Tower Bridge operations.

It is the engine that work at the begining with coal stoves to produce steam that lift a 100 tons cast-iron vessel to 20 meters high tank and then released it to open or close the bridge in using the hydraulic power of water.

Now coal and stove have been repaced by electrical pumps to get the right pressure for open/close operations.
