This is the monastery of St. Neofytos, who lived and worked in the 12th century. He spent a large part of his life as a hermit living in caves that can be visited today. But the caves became so popular with his followers that the recluse had to dig an extra cave above the chapel cave where he could witness the holy cermonies of his followers without coming into contact with them. The monastery was of course built later but still fonctions as monastery as well as hostel for devout orthodox christians seeking a week or two away from it all. And the place is quiet and beautiful. I managed this shot inside the church seen in the center.

This shot was taken from a hill above the monastery when returning from a walk. I resized, clarified and saturated a bit for the web. No sharpening was needed.
