Photographer’s Note

I have previously posted several pictures from this very attractive little port on the south coast of Brittany.

Taken close to the position of this photograph, this is a stitch of five images assembled using ArcSoft Panorama Maker.

In this picture, as well as the green and white outer lighthouse, you can just see the red and white inner one in the BG.

Exposure: 1/400-1/640s: F5.6

Taken as JPEG: PP in FastStone and PhotoShop 7.

It is a real pleasure to look at this large version, where all details are so clear. I also like the line here of a red, a blue and a green element. This panorama really shows the beauty of of this place.

Hello, Peter.

After seeing individual pictures of this pretty place previously, it's now a pleasure to be able to see this full panoramic view.

As usual for panoramas posted here, the quality of the smaller version does not immediately invite the viewer to progress farther: in this case, viewing the full-size image is well worth the trouble as the wealth of detail is wonderful.

Crisp and sharp and well-saturated throughout with no real evidence of "joins", the picture is full of different colours and lots of interesting things to look at. I suppose, when one can only look at part of the panorama at any one time, composition is a bit more difficult to assess, but I like the "solid" anchor to the composition formed by the massive crane boom and its hook and tackle on the left, nicely balanced by the buildings and the much frailer tall chimney on the right. The blue boat in the foreground commands a central position with a fine flotilla of smaller craft behind her.

I think this is a fine panorama but you might have noticed that Didi (who uploads some superb panoramas and also many non-panoramic pictures compiled from very many separate images) recently replied to one of my critiques of one of his panoramas and stated that he uses Autopano Pro 2.0 which costs 100 to 150 Euros. Furthermore, he also elsewhere made the comment that the use of a polariser is a major mistake when shooting multiple pictures with a view to panorama-making: I suppose that is understandable but it's a mistake I've made before! Clearly you didn't use a polariser here. (Didi also mentioned he felt that Photomerge was not ideal: I'm not sure of his views on ArcSoft Panorama Maker.)

hello Peter,
another good panorama from you that certainly rewards a closer look at the large version.Lots of interesting detail. As I have my grandson staying with me for a few days (at this precise moment the eldest is out with my husband and the youngest having a snooze) I immediately thought how the eldest would enjoy exploring this as a print. Like with his picture books, we could ask "where's the blue boat?, where's the crane?, the chimney?, the house with seven windows?, the rocks?,the green & white lighthouse?, the trees?...".

Hi Peter,
I don't remember I could see panoramic photos of Doelan on TE, so you had a very original idea. A good POV that includes both lighthouses (the red one in the very background) and the river. Nice sky, nice light. And a good quality for large version. I love it. How did you build the panorama ? Stitch or reframing ?
