Photographer’s Note

Like all the other miners I met here he was kind. I let him pass as I wanted to take photos of the line of other miners climbing up with the heavy weights; after a bend he stopped and watched down at me: "inviting you to dream" was written on his shirt...

Great shot, Luca!

This is a very moving portrait of life in a very difficult place. The look of the man you are capturing is very poignant: he seems hopelessly weighed down and at a breaking point beneath the crushing force of a noxious burden. The side lighting is very attractive and the rock face provides the perfect backdrop so as to not distract from your subject. Interesting (and very well done) composition! Thanks for sharing.

mi associo a Christian - una bella serie, pensata e realizzata con il cuore oltre che con la testa e la bravura del fotografo.
la qualita' dei dettagli e' impressionante, credo che in versione large format sarebbe semplicemente perfetta.

Wow, this is a great shot, Luca. I like the interaction here, the miner seems to be waiting for you, you seem to be waiting for him. The resulting composition is spot on, with the carrying stick just perfect.

I also like the yellow and pink, which bring colour to the scene, the intriguing letters on the rock (graffiti?) and the counterlight (yet with the man's face absolutely perfectly lit up). And then there's the title you chose, which brings yet another layer of meaning to the scene.

Well...OK, I'm jealous...:-)

Another great shot from your attractive serie on the sulfur mine. Here I am stunned by the intensity of the man look, full of load heavier than his present baskets; by his expression half weary and blasé (too many photographers up there?) , half proud. The degradation of his clothes just give an idea of the hard work they do; in a weird contrast with the sentence on his tee-shirt. Well spotted, good timing, an eye-catching portrait with a fine, even if not premeditated, compo. Bravo.
