Photographer’s Note
I am from a tropical country, immigrating to Houston, Texas where I didn't see snow in the last 14 years.
This is my second try on "snow photo". After a dozen of rolls, when the prints came out of the labs in Ottawa, I understood that taking photographs of snow is not as simple as I thought, as you can detect a lot of errors in this picture (for example: the loss of details and shadow on snow surface).
I appreciate all your critiques, both positive and negative.
Regards,

Despite the small errors.... such as the over exsposure near the front of the picture. I think this is a good photo, I am a fan of snow myself.. and snowey scenes... so this is right up there on my list. This is my favourite kind of snow aswell..... it's untouched... no one has stepped on it yet. I think it's a good picture I like the shadows you were able to capture!
But keep practicing... it can only get beter ;)

It's overexposed. I found the following excerpt in Robert Caputo's "National Geographic Field Guide":
"Snow and ice, like sandy beaches, are meter-foolers: The bright white makes the meter under-expose, because — don't forget — the meter takes a reading for 18% gray. The easiest way to compensate is to take a reading off a gray card or something in the scene you know is a natural tone. Make sure it is the same light as your subject, and the meter is not reading a bright background."
Based on the shadow of the fence, I think the photo has been taken around 10:00 am. Had it been earlier, the low sun raking across the snow has shown more detail and texture than this midday-sun picture. Anyway, your composition is good; I like it.
