Photographer’s Note

The "Abbaye de Fontenay" was built in the XII th century during a period of wealth, which allowed to give this complex the Grandeur feel still present today, this view is what you discover just after having passed the entry gate.

Listed on the UNESCO world Heritage, the abbey is mostly known for its remarkable cloister

très belle prise de ce lieu magnifique. La compo est impec' et les couleurs claquent. Les ombres sont un peu fortes mais la lumière devait être dure...Au fait, est-ce un pano ou un crop de l'image originale?

Quelque peu de contraste de trop, notamment sur la gauche du cadrage on ne lit pas les ombres. Mais c'est pas un grand problème, l'image est très bien composée, le 17mm joue son role.

Je me souviens avoir visiter cette abbaye il y a quelques années. Un endroit à la fois lumineux et mystérieux. La vue d'ensemble est ici très bien vu avec même une petite perspective.

This is a beautiful shot of this abbey. Your composition is nice with the walkway leading the eye into the shot while the trees frame the scene nicely. The lighting and colors are fine as is the photo's sharpness and DOF.

I'm envious of such a well kept monastery/abbey, as Henry VIII was responsible for the ruinous state of those in England, probably built around the same time. the many buildings tell of a busy and prosperous place in its day. This WA view encompasses so much splendour. The cloisters in the link are magnificent.

J'ai aussi posté une abbaye aujourd'hui... mais la mienne ne ressemble pas du tout à celle-ci.
On a l'impression d'être ici dans une belle propriété cossue, dont tu nous offres une belle vue d'ensemble.
Les jardins sont très élégants aussi et tu as profité d'un beau ciel.

je confirme pour l'avoir vu que c'est une superbe abbaye avec un parc luxurieux, les jardiniers ont beaucoup de mérite, les couleurs sont superbes, une bonne luminosité et un beau ciel bleu blanc accompagne l'ensemble

Amazing how much wealth the religious orders managed to accumulate in the Middle Ages! At least they spent it on magnificent buildings and grounds which we can all now enjoy.

Lovely presentation, almost but not quite too much polarizer, powerful light and shadows.

I can see a Romanesque church and some fortifications to the left JY, and behind to the right , there looks to be some more ancient and interesting buildings. It is a fine presentation that leads us to expect more fascinating insights as your journey inside progresses. Regards Kevin

I think I go against the tide in this one. I think the same feature/adjustment that enhanced the details of the architecture and the color of the sky, damaged a bit the shadow areas. It disturbs a bit the image reading...but still a good photo. If it's a stitching, it's flawless.

Bonjour, JY. Serait-ce le lieu de naissance de la célèbre Mme de Fontenay? Serait-elle née dans une abbaye , aurait-elle troqué la bure pour le chapeau? En tout cas, des jardins bien entretenus avec de nombreux sentiers qui constituent autant de lignes amenant le regard vers divers points d'intérêt. Les bâtiments aux pierres claires se détachent bien sur le ciel et les arbres sur les côtés ferment bien l'image.

Et dire que j'étais à côté de cette magnifique abbaye l'an dernier, en effet nous avions fait une halte à Montbard mais le temps était très pluvieux et nous avons renonçé à la visiter. Le cadrage, la lumière sont ici au top et le ciel parfaitement rendu.

The name of this abbey was very familiar & I was trying to remember where I've heard it before, then I saw your link...of course! Interesting that the abbey does not look of what I thought of when I first saw the picture of the cloisters. Lovely lead-ins created by the paths & fine contrast with the blue polarised sky!
