French friendship 2009 Photo

Photographer’s Note

With a few hours delay, I dedicate this photo to my French friends on TE.

Yesterday in Liège, as every year on July 14th, we celebrated our friendship with France.

Some people were complaining that the fireworks started too early, forbidding them to fully enjoy it because the sky was not yet dark.

But I was sooo happy it started before the end of blue hour :-D

The trace to the right is the proof that ghosts do exist! One of them who stopped just in front of my camera before realising I was making photos... I decided to keep the ghost instead of cropping in order not to loose the perspective created by the bridge.
But I will post another one as a WS, without bridge... and without ghost !

Hello Marianne,

I like the people and the bridge. I think they both add a more interesting frame to this amazing view. The exposure of this image is excellent. Its colours and details also very pleasant. A fun celebration I see :-)

Du bleu, un peu de blanc et de rouge, voilà tout ce qu'il faut pour célébrer notre fête nationale! Belle heure bleue liégeoise avec de beaux reflets et ce joli petit feu d'artifice en arrière plan (celui d'Auxerre a été tiré sous une forte pluie....sans mon appareil photo). Le fantôme n'est pas gênant et tu as bien fait de garder ce bout de pont.

Un bel hommage à nos amis français qui célébraient leur fête nationale. Le choix de l'heure de prise de vue est idéale. Tu as très bien combiné l'heure bleue et la prise de feux d'artifice.

Another very nice night shot the fireworks add more cheerfulness to this image. Very nice and intense colors, good composition, nice and vibrant atmosphere. you are doing very well with night shots and many successful one lately. I still have not yet got one that I really like for myself. Thanks

Une image plus generale que celle de l'an dernier mais qui montre bien le contexte et l'heure bleue, ils tirent tot en Belgique, en France on attend que le ciel soit bien noir.

Salut Marianne! Yes it is so much about friendship. This morning I had breaktfast with Elena from Moscow (another TE member) and I thought how nice this was, we only wrote to each other and yet we had so much in common when we finally met. So this suits my this morning's mood when I read about friendship. I like your "ghosts", there is movement in the crowd. Very pretty, the blue hour working so well, always impressive to see. Beautiful blue hour shot with excellent exposure. The perspective of the bridge makes a good lead-in to the fireworks. The wispy clouds in the sky point out the foreworks too. The 'ghost' doesn't disturb me, but you forgot the WS! :)

quel hommage, à l'heure bleue en plus, je dis chapeau car je ne suis jamais arrivé a faire des photos d'un feu d'artifice qui soient bonnes, trés belle profondeur grace a la perspective de ton POV, bien travaillé

d'habitude c'est toujours sur fond noir et j'avoue qu'ici le ciel bleu sombre apporte une autre dimension a la photo, le premier plan est bien restitué aussi avec ces belles reflections orangées.

Un ciel qui compense bien les teintes chaudes qui riment avec Cité Ardente.

Je trouve aussi que c'était une excellente idée que de commencer avant la fin de l'heure bleue! J'aurait peut-être recadré la photo en carré afin d'éviter le fantôme sur la droite. La foule du premier plan n'a de toute façon qu'un intérêt limité!

c'est sympa d'avoir pensé à nos amis français .
Juste pour pinailler, pourquoi ne t'es-tu pas déplacée vers la droite , la composition de l'image aurait placé le feu d'artifice sur l'un des points d'or ( en haut et à droite ) .
Comme je sens que je vais passer pour l'emm... de la soirée , ...j'suis déjà parti .

La télé a même parlé de Belges qui veulent le rattachement à la France !
J'aime bien cette photo qui combine un feu d'artifice, l'heure bleue, un fantôme et des très beaux reflets. Merci pour ces quatre options au prix d'une seule !

Bonjour Marianne,

Après un nuit bien agitée la nuit dernière avec les orages, le temps se couvre à nouveau ce matin sur Versailles et dans le bureau... alors voilà une belle nuit festive qui donne de la couleurs !!! Belle prise de vue sur ce feu d'artifices scellant l'amitié franco belge et en plus à l'heure bleue, la partie de la berge à droite donne un profondeur appréciable à l'image. J'espère tenter cet exercice lors du feu du 15 août en Bretagne. Merci Marianne.

pour les spectateus,un ciel noir aurait sûrement été mieux,mais pour les photographes,l'heure bleue était idéale!En voici la preuve!L'ombre du fantôme ne me gêne pas du tout,je me demande par contre si je n'aurais pas coupé en bas toute la partie sombre de l'eau,ce qui aurait laissé en partie la courbe du pont et l'effet d profondeur qu'il donne,je trouve que ça aurait mis plus l'accent sur les lumières de la ville et le feu d'artifice!Quoiqu'il en soit,c'est super bien réalisé!

Yes, I do love my D60! Although I haven't mastered it like you have yet ;)

Case in point: How the heck did you have your aperture open for 8 seconds, and have the people on the right not move??? I took some photos at our July 4th celebration, and some of them came out pretty good. However, the biggest problem I had was in order to capture the fireworks at night, the people watching came out a little blurry. All it takes is a little bit of motion - like I see in the streetlamp in this image - to blur something. So what's your secret? C'mon - throw me a bone! Haha!

Seriously, Marianne, this is another gorgeous shot on your part. Beautiful colors, well-selected POV, excellent composition.

Je ne sais plus pourquoi la ville de Liège organise un feu d'artifice le 14 juillet, mais on ne cesse de me répéter quand je viens que Liège est la ville belge qui fête le plus cette date. Supebres couleurs dans ta compo.

Une photo très bien réussie d'une ville et de son feu d'artifice (et pour avoir essayer de faire la même chose à Orléans je sais à quel point il est dur de bien réussir à paramétrer l'appareil pour obtenir ce genre de photo !).
En tout cas bravo pour votre photo et bonne continuation !

The ghost is near invisible here thanks to the 8 sec exposure! Like the perspective of the bridge, your favourite blue hour sky (of course) & the fireworks in the distance. I have fond remembrances of your city, where I happened to be on one Bastille day 15 years ago!

Hola, mi amiga Marianne,
esta toma a la hora azul, con la bonita luz de la ciudad reflejada sobre al río, los colores, y los fuegos artificiales sobre el puente azul, está perfectamente realizada y resulta muy atractiva a la vista.
Tu referencia a los fantasmas por la interferencia en el encuadre de una persona mientras tomabas la foto en un tiempo de exposición largo me gusta, es muy divertida. Y has hecho bien al no recortar la foto.
También me gustan mucho la perspectiva y la profundidad de la imagen.
Es un bello trabajo.
