Photographer’s Note

Tallinn is the capital of Estonia and one of the best preserved ancient cities of Europe. The photo presents "Raekoja Plats", the central square of the old city and one of Tallinn major sights, the Town Hall.
Of the late Gothic period, the original building dates from the 13th century, but substantial reworks took place in the 15th century.
The photo dates from 1992, shortly after Estonia's independance from the USSR, so this is the reason why the place looks so empty, even in summer. A lot has changed since then, lots of tourists now visit Tallinn and the fact that Estonia has joined the European Union on May 1st, 2004, will probably attract even more tourists.
