TIGHT FIT
Venice is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and most interesting cities in the world. Comprised of around 120 islands, it features canals for streets, the Grand Canal as its a main boulevard, and countless bridges (about 400) as its crosswalks. From its beginnings 1500 years ago as a loose federation of scattered villages, its population increased, and a network of canals was dug. It eventually evolved into the watery maze we know today that was described by architect-urban planner Le Corbusier as a "a perfect cardiac system!" Plying its streets are the gondolas, small barges, power boats, water taxis, and, in the case of its main boulevard, water busses or vaporetti.
Through the centuries, the city has been home to numerous (ordinary) geniuses, including architect Palladio; scientist-mathematician Galileo; painters Titian, Tintoretto, Canaletto, Veronese and Bellini; composers Albinoni and Vivaldi; and the lover Cassanova! Famous visitors who marveled at its prepossessing beauty include Napoleon, Hemingway. At one point in the early 16th century, it was also home to one rare "transformative genius," Leonardo, who actually lived most of his life in Florence and Milan.
I was riding in a water taxi that had just squeezed under a small bridge when I spotted a small boat trailing us also emerging from under the bridge. Two earlier posts of life on the canals of Venice appear as Number One and Number Two. Perhaps I will collect a few such shots in a theme, "Life on the Canals..."

Bulent,
This is a nice shot of this boat going under the bridge. The canal leads the eye through the shot and the boat gives the shot a sense of motion. The lighting and colors are fine with excellent sharpness and detail.

Hello Bulent,
I like the animation and dynamism here and the sense of fun. It is perhaps slightly over-exposed but not a major issue. Clarity is excellent.

Hi Bulent,
Excellent sharpness and details presented in this shot. I like the symmetry and lines of the photo as well...the bridge and boat in the middle, with the beautiful facades on both sides. As always, your notes are informative and interesting.
Thanks for sharing!

I've never been to Venice, but it is high on my 'to do' list. I love how you have framed this, really emphasising the narrowness of the canals and the small size of the bridges. One would have to aim for the centre to manage to fit the boat in. There is a wide difference in light quality from left to right and you managed that very well too.

Merhaba, Bulent -
I'm not sure I'd have much sympathy for this guy if he did bang his head on the bridge; somehow, driving a speedboat through the small canals of Venice sounds like drag racing on a San Francisco hill street. But he's not going all that fast, judging by the wake.
Occasionally, other cities like Amsterdam and St. Petersburg talk about how they have more bridges than Venice. That misses the point - Venice is all bridges and canals; no other city can make that claim.
Oh, yes - nice shot, if a bit busy.
Best,
Dan

Hallo, Bulent.
First I was aware of the people on the bridge. Then I laughed when I saw the happy man pop out from under it.
Nice summer colours, too.

Muhteşem ! Herşeyi ile tipik bir Venedig karesi. Güzel bakış açısı, iyi kompozisyon. Oyunu bozan tek öge, köprünün altından geçen deniz taxi'si. Vay gondol'ların haline.

There is no place like Venice, and this is a good shot to show some of the unique character. I like the contrast between the people on the boat and the people on the bridge walking over them. Nice work!

Hello Professor 'A'
The bridges are indeed low in height & you managed to a good example with the passing boat with the man's head (would have been) barely inches from the arch roof. There is a wide variation in light on the left & right banks & you've handled the contrast very well. Well done!
With warmest Regards

Hello Bulant,
Very good candid of this favorite place, the tourists walking to and fro, and the modern boat offsetting the classical Venice buildings. Congratulations,
Ray
(PS: A California developer used the Venice theme and built canals and houses next to the coast near Santa Monica. It went through a period of downfall in the 1950s and 60s, but after fixing up the canals and houses, it is now a place of prime real estate.)

Hello Bulent,
whenever I see views of the little bridges of Venice Daphne Du Maurier's "Don't Look Now" comes to mind. Yet here you have a cheery scene, not the least bit sinister.Excellent POV from your water taxi. Hey, you must have plenty of money 'cos water taxis are a pricey way to get about! It is the vaporetta for the likes of me.

Hi Bulent,
This white boat cuts quite a figure as it moves swiftly towards your lens all the time surrounded by the lovely architecture of this wonderfully unique city.
The lazy pase of the pedestrians on the bridge is very charming.
I really enjoyed your note as to the geographic discription of the islands and canals that make up this unique city.

hello Bulent,
the essence of Venice in one shot - water, bridges, architecture, sunlight and crowds :) the sense of motion and sense of direction are very strong here and add depth and dynamism to the scene despite the harsh and flattening light.
I've only been to Venice once, more than ten years ago, but I do remember the unique aura of the place. it works like a shot of the best espresso and fills you with vibrant energy :)

Hi Bulent
I love that title. That's what happens when all these newly rich want to intrude and violate a whole culture with novelties. The traditional gondola the picturesque bridges and those incredible palazzos splashed by the waves thrown from speed boats. I guess the whole situation is deplorable the way it happens almost everywhere. No respect for anything!
Have a great day and thanks

Yes, Bulent, Venice is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities I have been visited ... I was there a couple of times.
It´s really an extraordinally feeling to take a boat or even a simple "vaporetto" and watch all those beauties around there!
Venice is magical, yes, it is. ( Somehow like Istambul, too, my dear Trekfriend! )
Have a nice 2009, Mr. Atalay!

Hello Bülent, my friend,
It may be just a tourist snapshot, but it is also a lovely one. I imagine that it must be difficult to find a view of Venice that doesn't reminisce either a snapshot, a postcard or a painting. :D
An effective framing, a difficult light situation reasonably well managed, but most important of all, a beautiful setting.
Regards, José.

Hola Bulent.
Nice view of the canal and typical buildings in Venice, maybe the presence of a gondola would be more romantic in such beautiful view but you captured a modern boat which we see now all around Venice. I was there last September but was raining for two days before we got the crystal cruiser, my wife tells me that we have to go back, will see!!.
TFS.
