Photographer’s Note

In the cozy atmosphere of the "café Métropole", a couple is waiting serenely for the beer they have just ordered.

We were taking some photos nearby, admiring the decorations, maybe that's why they too paid more attention to the beautiful ceilings.

Still waiting, for P. (like many other members)...

...Now in a B&W mood, with my new small Lumix LX3; probably not permanent !

The Café is part of the hotel Metropole, on the famous Place de Brouckère which was glorified by Jacques Brel. It was "inaugurated in 1895, ... a majestic 19th-century landmark ... located in the historic centre of Brussels, (few) steps from Grand Place and the city's most exciting shopping, restaurants and nightlife".

Frommer's Review :
"Many Brussels visitors never get beyond the pleasant heated sidewalk section of this massive Victorian-style cafe. Inside you find a casually elegant decor, highlighted by a marble fireplace, colorful wooden puppets hung from the high ceilings, and comfortable leather seating arranged in cozy groupings. The menu includes sandwiches, soups, quiches, and other light meals. The bar menu fills no fewer than six pages, including some rather exceptional specialties from the head barman".

Bonjour Catherine,

J ai une preference pour cette photo par rapport a la precedente. Je trouve le cadrage plus efficace grace a une lecture plus facile de l image. On rentre tout de suite dans la situation grace a ce couple que l on repere tout de suite et dont le regard nous emmene ensuite a la decouverte du reste de l image.
En plus, il y a cette petite note d humour par le regard en l air qui me plait bien.

Excellent résultat, indeed.
J'aime bien les regards du couple vers le haut.
Une belle ambiance de l'ensemble, avec un beau rendu de tons noirs et argentés.

Il faut reconnaître que le décor est somptueux et qu'il mérite l'admiration de ces deux consommateurs !
Originale présentation très réussie.

Je recopie le comentaire sur la photo precedante et j'ajoute que tu as choisie une maniere habile d'illustrer ce que tu viens de dire dans la note. Je recois tes dernieres photos comme un vrai raffraichissement.

Très chouette Cath ! J'adore leur expression et le geste synchronisé, et l'humour :-). Le décor somptueux ressort très bien et je trouve la qualité de ton Lumix excellente et le b/n bien contrasté, le tout dans cette belle lumière chaude. On y retournera...

Hi Catherine,

I don't recall seeing so many details in a black and white before.

The stamped tin ceiling, marble pillars, the brass nail heads on the upholstery of the booths...The coat rack, the bottles of booze (Down girl!), even the man with the mismatching patterns in his shirt and tie (As it should be.)

I should go here some day.

Ces deux-là semblent complètement absorbés dans leur contemplation!
Je ne sais pas si c'est toi qui les y as incités, mais je veux bien croire que oui, après t'avoir vue à l'oeuvre sur La Batte!
Ton traitement N&B fonctionne bien. Tu aurais peut-être pu corrriger un peu la distorsion, même si elle n'est pas très gênante.
La manière dont tu as géré les différentes sources de lumière est efficace.
Bien joué.
