99- International Toilet day Photo

Photographer’s Note

While browsing through the gallery, I came across one of Morac's latest photos showing funny toilets in Nantes, France. In his note, he wrote that it was the "International Toilet day" on November 19th, to remind us that BILLIONS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE WORLD DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO TOILETS. LACK OF SANITATION KILLS 5000 CHILDREN EVERYDAY.
I then remembered this photo I had in my picture box! I hadn't known whether to post it or not, but Morac's reminder made me decide to do it!
As I was doing some shopping in Oxford street, I was looking for public toilets. I just went into a parallel street, which was far from being luxurious, and this is what I found! I couldn't believe my eyes how tidy and comfortable they were; that's why I took the photo.
Being French, I am ashamed to say I am not used to such well-kept public toilets. And if you look at the WS, well, the outside is just of a great style to be kept as part of the British heritage!
Oh! And they were free of charge too! Congratulations to the British!
And especially, let's hope that the developing countries will one day be all provided with a minimum of hygienic comfort!

Hello MarieLouise !
Your choice to show a toilet is not unusual in TE. It's a place where a lot of people spend sometime every day ...
I have seen very special and funny toilet places around the world specially in Japan where, ... "self-cleaning and user-cleaning" toilets are common in Hotels.
I have a picture of such toilets. May be that I will take the hearth to post it.
p.s. the shot is well done.. good POV and calibrated colours.

C'est vrai que chez nous en France quand on rentre dans des WC publics on ne sait pas toujours ce que l'on va trouver derrière la porte, et généralement on a de bien mauvaises surprises, bien français quoi !!! Effectivement il faut que ça soit payant pour trouver du "propre" et ce n'est pas toujours le cas... Ici pas de surprise je vois, c'est "clean" et en plus l'entrée que tu nous présente en WS est superbe. Photos originales, bien vu Marie-Louise.

When travelling I often snap pictures of toilets (especially if they are quite 'unique'.) When I get back home my kids find it very entertaining :) I like the colors and the detail is great. TFS

Toilettes gratuites, tenue exemplaire, séparation entre hommes et femmes d'une façon élégante. Nous avons encore beaucoup à apprendre !
Note très bien rédigée et très pertinente !
"De nos jours, vous pouvez aller dans une station-service et trouver la caisse ouverte et les toilettes fermées. Ils doivent penser que le papier toilette vaut plus que les billets".

An excellent photo I think Marie Louise. The colors are so sharp. The photo says it all:)

scusami ma io per abitudine dico quello che penso...
Se siamo al punto da dover vedere simili foto e doverle pure commentare allora forse è meglio che cambiamo hobby... e mi meraviglio che una persona che ama i paesaggi e le belle immagini, proponga roba del genere.
La ritengo un'offesa per tutti coloro che amano la fotografia.
E' un mio parere che molti non condivideranno ma lo esprimo perchè sento di doverlo fare.

LOL LOL that's a funny photo! a photo of something that is really very important in our life though people seldom talk about it... in public :)
Good shot ;) I like the blue and white colours!
I think that most photographers (at least on this site) have taken at least once a photo of a public toilet :) I have a few such photos, too, taken in Stockholm and in Switzerland. I wonder if I should join "the toilet day" and dare to post one photo, too :)

Une reportage amusante mais au même temps tu attires l'attention pour une situation problématique en beaucoup de places, pas seulement en France ou autres pays du "1er monde".
Un example très bon de la devise de TE ("Le monde par la photographie").

Perdonami MarieLouise, ma trovo la foto di cattivo gusto, anche se questa è stata postata per far presente che un miliardo di persone al mondo non hanno accesso al WC.

E' vero che TE non deve essere solo bei paesaggi o belle chiese, ma un WC bello aperto, mi sembra offensivo.

Io solitamente quando una foto non la gradisco non la commento, ma in questo caso non riesco a far finta di nulla.

Ero entrato nella tua galleria per vedere se avevi postato la 100th e invece ci trovo la 99th con un bel WC.

I tink this cool blue color is the ideal atmosphere for a toilet.

Entre, autre, j'ai une curieuse passion: je collectionner les chiots du monde. Quelle differance d'expression, si tu savais. Enfin, fais un parcour a travers le TE et tu vas voir.

Hi MarieLouise,

The theme and note are really funny and the picture is very sharp and the blue colour of the walls is very attractive. However, I am very sorry but from a photographic point of view I have nothing to say. I understand that you perfect this tidy one to dirty one full of grafitti, but I would probably have found one of the latter much more interesting as a photo subject. Nevertheless, I always enjoy diffent and unusal picture and I am happy that so many people liked it. TFS and have a nice Sunday evening!
