Autumn in the Vineyards Photo

Photographer’s Note

With wonderful sunny weather in store for the weekend I could not wait to get outdoors, though it was difficult to decide where to go to enjoy the weekend to the full. In the end I chose to visit the vineyards of Alsace.

At this time of year the whole landscape is ablaze with gold and orange, and I spotted this solitary tree from miles away. As it was positioned on the crest of a hill, I had wanted to photograph it on the horizon but had been unable to find a suitable pov which was not blocked by the buildings of the town or the hill and vines themselves. Nevertheless the tree itself in close-up proved to give a lovely view of the castle behind. The castle of St Ulrich is one of a trio of castles which overlook Ribeauvillé and make for a pleasant walk after a hearty Alsatian lunch. And after the walk, why not refresh yourself with a some blueberry tart and glass of Pinot Gris?

Beautiful view over the vineyards, presented in a superb composition. The colours of autumn are really beautiful and especially the tree on the right is of course a real eyecatcher! I love the sunlight here too, thanks a lot for sharing!

Hello Susanna,
Wonderful in presentation and colour. Sounds maybe stupid, but i like the far background, fading away in haze with a multi layer composition on those hills...i love that, makes me want to stand there also.
Of course the colourful tree brings contrast and live to the image, but it's also your composition that i like...wonderful.

Hello Susanna,

Les couleurs d'automnes ont bien pris leur place. Cet arbre orange est parfait pour donner une belle entrée dans l'image. Une petite cité dans les hauteurs au loin emporte le regard vers l'horizon.

hmm, I accept the blueberry tart and glass of wine ;-) Olá Susanna, the color of the tree that you spotted from miles away is amazing indeed. Only after a while I was able to observe the view to the left, the yellow line of vineyards, the soft light on the ondulating hills and finally the castle in the distance. But after this, I go back to that fascinating autumnal color.

Bonjour Susanna, après un petit verre de pinot gris ou autre breuvage issu des vignobles alsaciens, tous les ingrédients sont réunis pour voir la vie en couleur, moi je bois pas alors pour voir des couleur, je me penche sur cette photo bien de circonstance, lumineuse dans laquelle baigne cette scène rendue féerique par le détaille des couleurs, un bon cadrage décentrée sur cet arbre qui ouvre la vue sur les reliefs vallonnés de l'arrière-plan, et quel relief ou l‘on distingue Ribeauvillé et ses châteaux, ce foisonnement automnal est de toute beauté, bien amicalement
