Photographer’s Note
Location: The Pacific side of the Baja Peninsula near Cabo San Lucas.
About the photo: I was 4-wheeling near the beach when I saw this osprey catch a fish in the ocean. Then he landed atop this giant cactus to eat his breakfast.

Hi Ryan. Splendid shot and filled with contradictions (if one doesn't read your note), since the osprey is a creature that lives near the sea and the cactus is a plant that grows in the desert.Wonderful light and colour and evocative POV which leads the eye upwards to the bird. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Ryan,
I hope your 30D in well cushioned when you are 4-wheeling...
What I like most, other than beautiful bright colours, is this clever composition, sharp and tight. The light is at its best to create very strong highlights and shadows with the cactus textures, so they are popping out in front of this rich blue sky.
Strong work.

Hi Ryan,
Seeing that you took this one with the 24-70 means you must be very close and having a lot of luck in capturing the bird on top. When i was in Saguaro i was hopeing on such a shot like this...of course that didn't happen.
Take care, Henk

Hi Ryan,
The finger like limbs of the cactus spread out and fill up the frame nicely as well as making a good contrast with the blue clear sky. Of course the bird and its prey is the icing on the cake and is very well captured at that moment. love the holes in the cactus too.

amazing view, a little view from the nature and its power. I liked the shapes of this marvelous cactus and the contrast between it and the sky, its texture and the bird in the top. well done

Ryan,
Great catch for you and off course for the osprey too. You're in the right place to capture the moment. I like the catus plant against the light blue sky, the golden light illuminated the catus nicely. Good composition, good clarity and sharpness. Considered and this must happen very fast and you have to act fast to get it. Thanks

These beautifully graphic compositions are standard for you, Ryan--you just know how to cut out the clutter. You are fortunate that the osprey chose this very graceful-looking cactus, not one with dead branches or something. Nice color combination here, too. Well done as always. Regards, Ken.

hi Ryan
I like the idea of this shot, very grapic. to me is a pity the cactus is a little overexpose and there's not much details on the osprey. but the idea was of showing these lines with the cactus in perfect contrast with the sky is nice

Hi Ryan,
A great eye catcher, this minimalist image. The cactus reminds an abstract sculpture of a hand open to the clear blue sky. Great graphics, clarity and colours.
It's funny that the falcon uses the cactus as dinner table. Before I read the note, I thought he was looking for any incautious animal that lived in the cactus.
Regards, José.

Shooting birds with the 24-70? You are lucky Ryan. I've tried to get some flamingos recently with the 70-200 and man, what a deception...they were always so far from :-((
You've been posting slowly, I'm missing your posts.
