Photographer’s Note

Zakynthos Shipwreck bay: The beach of Navagio or Shipwreck or even Zakynthos smugglers cove is the most famous of Zakynthos beaches and one of the most famous of all Greece. It is the trademark of the island and has been photographed millions of times. This superb beach is located in the eastern part of the island, close to the Anafotiria village.

It was initially called Agios Georgios but owes its new name to the shipwreck of a boat that transported illegal cigarettes, in 1983. The deep sea left the remains of the ship on this beach.

With the years passing, the sand completely surrounded the ship which looks now as if it was emerging of it. The vestiges of the ship can be seen in the middle of the large white sandy beach which has amazing turquoise and crystalline waters.

Huge vertical cliffs of white rocks are surrounding the sand creating a unique and enchanting image. To reach this paradise, one has to take a little boat from the small port of Porto Vromi.

Hello Georgios,

The colors of the sea make this photo. You have well used the cliff to build the composition and the shipwrek even if not totally seen on the frame is giving the particular interest on the scene.

Δεν μπορώ να μην εκφράσω το θαυμασμό μου γι' αυτήν την κλασσική μεν, υπέροχη δε, φωτογραφία. Αυτό το μπλέ των θαλασσών είναι απερίγραπτα όμορφο και αρτια δοσμένο από εσένα, με το καράβι που σχίζει τα νερά στο background και τις άριστες λεπτομέρειες των βράχων.

I wonder whether it is possible to get access to that superb beach by foot crossing some pathes or the only (normal) possibility is getting in by boat ...It must be one of the most photographied beaches in Greece and it always seems as if the photographer were alone . That sense of clearness , the striking contrast of blue tones and that waters shrieking to be drunk as if a summer terrace cocktail ...

Truly a very refreshing and nicely executed picture !

I like your very high pov here. The blending of the white sand and crystal clear water is an eye catcher, and i like the boat with white trails as it adds sense of scale. Excellent one.
