Photographer’s Note

"Abaa" is men's loose sleeveless cloak , open in front that has been mostly used in the old days . It is weaved with the wool of sheep, goat or the camel. The latter is the most expensive and desirable one; for it is both warmer and lighter.

City of Naeen has been one of the best centers of Abaa-weaving in Iran. Like you see in the shot , their looms are made inside the hills in a form of the long corridors.
In past , several men were working in these places, but nowadays only few persons work there. For example, in the loom you see, just 2 men are still working . Although they haven't a large income, but they are concerned about their job and the future of it.

The man in the shot was weaving an "Abaa" and the other one in the left - who was out of the loom - was weaving a striped "Gelim" which is a short -napped coarse carpet.

It seems that by the new usage of these kind of cloths , this job will flourish again .

In the WS I have uploaded a portrait of the owner of the loom , wearing a brown Abaa weaved by himself.
