Photographer’s Note
I could not resist getting out of the taxi the moment I saw this view, i was in Cairo, tired lieing my head back after a long day. i admit that it was a stupid risk stopping on the bridge that has no shoulder!!!
The word "Nile"(Arabic: 'nīl) comes from the Greek word Neilos (Νειλος), meaning river valley. In the ancient Egyptian language, the Nile is called iteru, meaning "great river", represented by the hieroglyphs shown on the right (literally itrw). In Coptic, the words piaro (Sahidic) or phiaro (Bohairic) meaning "the river" come from the same ancient name.
The Nile is a major north-flowing river in Africa, generally regarded as the longest river in the world. However, recent findings suggest that the Amazon River may be longer.
The Nile has two major tributaries, the White Nile and Blue Nile, the latter being the source of most of the Nile's water and fertile soil, but the former being the longer of the two. The White Nile rises in the Great Lakes region of central Africa, with the most distant source in southern Rwanda and flows north from there through Tanzania, Lake Victoria, Uganda and southern Sudan, while the Blue Nile starts at Lake Tana in Ethiopia flowing into Sudan from the southeast. The two rivers meet near the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
Best regards.
Sam.

Sam-
Nice use of a panorama. You were right to stop and get this shot. Apparently, you survived the harrowing experience.
Well captured, and incredible us of light.

Hello Sam,
Your compostion, warm colors, and framing are excellent. This looks like a painting. Cairo is filled with traffic. You are lucky you did not get hit when you stopped to take the picture.
Best regards,
Betty

Olá Sam, fantastic panoramic view of the Nile. It looks much more powerful here than in the south...I remember of a similar view when passing a bridge coming from the pyramids - may be it's the same one - but I didn't asked the taxi to stop over. Love the texture on the water, the skyline and the detail of a felucca at left. It would give a great Large Version...

Hi Sam,
Very nice sense of dimension .. wonderful and thoughtful windswept water .. echoed in the sail .. love the gentle warmth of the tonality ... and the pronounced but controlled angle of light .. very nice .. especially for hopping out of a cab .. take care, John

A good panoramic view Sam
I have often crossed major water ways like this and thought about doing exactly what you did here, but I guess im just too lazy or too scared about stopping the car in the middle of the traffic "just" for a picture:))
You did well

hello Sam
definitely not the Nile we would imagine, reading ancient Egyptian history... looks like any big river near any big, modern city; and that's why I like it - as a forewarning before I buy my ticket for Egypt ;))
warm regards,
kristaps
