Photographer’s Note
I really struggled with this photo. We hiked up Arthur's Seat which is ~250m volcano above Edinburgh. It's quite a nice hike and not too difficult (takes ~30 minutes) and you get a great view for your efforts.
The difficulty came in that the day was very bright and the sun right ahead of me in the sky. As such, I decided to try and silhouette this shot. Fortunately with digital, you can use the histogram which helped a lot. I decided to use b/w as the sky was simply too bright.
I also thought about cropping a little tighter to the rock, but decided against it to give a greater sense of context. I would appreciate your comments.

Hi Don,
Considering the circumstances you were shooting in- I think you did pretty well.
The only thing missing is the bagpipe player atop the rock! I can honestly say, I've never really tried using the histogram when taking a shot (we both use the Canon 300D I notice). I guess it's high time I gave it a try.
On a side note- can you tell me how you get the signature onto your shots like that?
(I must say, not bad for a medical practitioner- who are notorious for having illegible penmanship! hahahaha)
Cheers Don!
