Photographer’s Note
St Andrews Castle
This is my second photo from the town of St Andrews, Scotland and after the ruins of the old cathedral, I now show the ruins of the old castle in the town.
St Andrews (Scottish Gaelic: Cill Rìmhinn) is located on the east coast of the council area of Fife and is named after Saint Andrew the Apostle. The town has 14,000 inhabitants and is known for various reasons:
First of all, it is home to Scotland's oldest university: University of St Andrews (founded 1410-1413), also the University Prince William went to, Kath (feather) told me. Secondly the town was the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland until the Reformation. And thirdly the town is known as the home of golf.
St Andrews Castle is located at the North Sea coast. There has been a castle on this site since the late 12th century. During the Wars of Scottish Independence the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times and changed often hands between the Scots and the English.
The little beach is called Castle Sands.
As you can see, we had great weather when we visited St Andrews on a Sunday morning last month.
This picture is a stitch of three photos.
Hope you like it and thanks for your visit!

Hi Lars,
once again you've delivered a great result here. This second post from St Andrews it's (maybe) even better then the first one; great details throughout especially in the ruins of the castle. Compo looks well balanced with the tower on the left leaving space to the eye to discover the beautiful view.
Along the beautiful note you've delivered a super TE package.
Thanks for sharing

You have composed the image very well Lars. The largest part of the ruin is on the left with plenty of lines to carry the eye across to the right, making it easy to view. (just like most of us read) The technical quality is good with excellent light. The tiny people including the one on the beach are great for scale. Lastly the stitch is very good with no evidence that I can see. Good work.

Hej Lars,
so what do the Scottish think about you, Lars? Leaving each place in ruins there? Do they still welcome you in a friendly way? ;-)
Good view over the wall with the tower balancing the open view to the sea. I like to follow the wall at the beach with the eye but also the green inside is pleasant. Good light and sharpness.

Dag Lars,
Bedankt!
Prettige dag verder,
John.

Its essence, the choice of position, the overview on the sea, yes, with shown surroundings you placed this castle perfectly into the frame of image, into the space and time. Composition is excelletntly balanced, light superbly managed and details marvelously displayed through whole shot. Excellent!

Hi Lars,
The lighting here helps to enrich the colours of this landscape well I believe. There are plenty of objects of interest to keep the eye pleased. Good representation of human scale, and also depth of field with people and regular objects positioned at various depths in the image. The horizon does seem to cut the photo into a 50/50 portion, but it is not as pronounced in many other images, I think because the castle blocks much of the horizon. The curve of the fence is good to see, as is the complimentary still water and lush grass.
