Photographer’s Note

Brazil is also a country of sounds, different sounds. For instance, some sounds are so involving, so seductive that they provoque creativity. When you listen to brazilian beat, it is pretty hard to stay still and quiet. It's fairly common and usual to see people following rythms with a simple matchbox... they beat at it as a tinny drum and, take my word for that, some people can do great things with that little matchbox. To this, we call it "batuque".

I love this shot, Bruno. Motion blur is excellent and the bright colors of the match box contrast nicely with the flesh tones of the hands. Great capture.

Perfect Bruno!
We have a great composer who is specialist in matchbox: Elton Medeiros, partner of Cartola and Paulinho da Viola. Do you know the Paulinhos´ music "Para ver as meninas"? He sings with Elton Medeiros playing matchbox and Cristóvão Bastos playing harpsichord (cravo). It´s fantastic!

Very nice picture. I love how the hands are so sharp and textured, and the box is slightly blurry. Nice tight composition, and the story makes it original.
