Photographer’s Note

I took this photo at the Stockton Beach sand dunes, near Anna Bay, just north of Newcastle in NSW. These sand dunes are really beautiful and stretch for miles and miles. It doesn't even feel like you are at the beach. You could almost mistake being in a desert, such as the Sahara.

Hello Claudia,
These simple compositions have great visual impact and this one is no exception. We don't get the usual warm colors here but the sky makes up for that. Maybe the wood didn't have to be that close to the corner. I think you could have stopped down to f/8 without compromising the shutter speed constraint. Sharpness may become an issue if enlarged. Great textures..Perfectly managed light..seems exposure is just right to bring out a well balanced saturation of colours.which is generally strong in most sand-scape shots ive seen

Like the layers and the sharpness..deepens the compo..good job overall :)

Absolutely beautiful composition. It is reassuring to see the humble 350D performing so well for you! I hope to be able to use mine so effectively one day...

With a bit of sharpening to bring out the textured sand, this might work quite well as a monochrome, too.

the simple compo is eye-popping! the wavy sand dunes against the blue sky give the scale. and that piece of wood is, "rightfully" included! nice one.

Beautiful composition and good PP on the sky to make it darker and make a harder contrast with the dune.
