Photographer’s Note
Words get tangled on your tongue
And you stumble on your feet
When you miss somebody
And everywhere you think you see them
Walking down the street
When you miss somebody
When you miss somebody
You tell yourself a hundred thousand times
Nobody ever lives forever
So you give it one more try
To wave goodbye, wave goodbye
Now you start to recognize
That every single path you see
Leads to a tear in your eye
So wave goodbye, wave goodbye
Chris Cornell, Wave Goodbye

Such an intimate moment, Dennis. The close crop and the note go very well together. It seems a bit intrusive, though. It reminds me of some theme I was seeing around: "how close can you get" or something of sorts.
Greetings,

Oh, Denis...

This is so beautiful. I love your note and the picture is priceless. So very true!!! It makes me cry as I leave today for the Philippines for two months and went to say goodbye to my very old parents this morning...sniff. TFS!

Good evening Dennis!
I wouldn't have dared, but you did it, and it's well! Death is part of life, and I often regret that nowadays, it's often relegated to places that aren't amongst the living, as if it was shameful, something not to be accepted.
And yet, it's the only thing we are sure of, that we'll all die one day!
The photo is full of serenity and affection!
May she rest in peace, and surely be remembered by all her dear ones, all the people to whom she brought some good during her life, and thus stay alive through them!
Condolences.
Marie Louise.

Aaaah Dennis Hello,
This is very heart touching. Very well captured and an adorable last moment photo. Perhaps one of the best memory left behind. Made me absolutely cry. Your note is great too.

Dennis,
Your picture is opened in a tab in my browser since you posted it. So, it is not your critique in my photo that brings me here [but... thanks!]. I look at it many times in the afternoon, not knowing exactly what to write. Also, I was trying to dig into my memory, because I vaguely recall that you wrote something somewhere about your grandmother. But I just can't remember. If I read well your note, I guess you had to wave goodbye or your will have to. Even though it is painful, remember that there is possible precious stones lying in your way... At least, it is what I've learned when my father died...
Even though I can't see the eyes of the man, I can feel there is much love and warmth in those eyes. That is what makes the photo for me...
I hope you will have a great 2008 year, dear Dennis. Love, love and love...
Claire

Hi Dennis,
I won't go too much with details on this one. I'm a very sensible person and although I don't have problem with dead people, I really can't look at people suffering or agonizing... I don't even know if she's all right in the hand of the person taking care of her, but for me, it's unbearable.
Let's just say it's a very human photo... I have to fight with my own demons and the fear of dying.

Could go to the other nightshots but this scene seemed so much more human touching even by the thumb that I had to come by, the scene on itself speeks so much human values that it makes you look again and again as we could feel her breath and hear her soft wispering voice saying how much she enjoys the visit.

Hi Dennis.
Very powerful image. It makes you think about the life. It is very sad message, but death is part of our life too

Well, you really made my heart sink...at first...then, I realize the ultimate truth once again: death IS a part of life, always was, always will be. It actually gives meaning to it. So why should we make it a taboo anywhere, and that goes for photography too, I guess..
Well chosen poem, Dennis, now my eyes are really full of tears, I feel close to the old lady...
strong and touching work.

Dennis,
Une scène que je confronte souvent,
qui me déchire le coeur à chaque fois,,
car je viens de perdre une personne
qui m'a apporter beaucoup.
Un moment difficille à immortaliser, réussie de main de maître.

This is a very touching and sensitive picture Denis - just 16 months ago i took some pictures of my own mother as she lay dying - I too thought long and hard about it and came to the conclusion that this act was about life and relationships and something to share with others in some future place - but right then and now it was for me. I have seen and been around much death, peaceful deaths, quick deaths, long drawn out deaths and violent deaths, young and old and all of those in between - I have written about it, thought about it, come close to it myself more than once and returned and more and more I come to be disturbed more by our, particularly Western separation from it than by death itself. This image is doubly poignant for me at the moment as my Mother In law is very close to death tonight - it is a time of goodbye, a time of letting go, making our peace and release into a place where there is nothing to fear.
thankyou for sharing this picture Denis.
