This is the reservoir of the Chamera Dam built over the river Ravi in the Chamba district of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The dam is built in a geologically unstable area & is surrounded by hills. The site is easily accessible from the Chamba-Pathankot highway. The minimum level of water in the lake is 747 metres and maximum level is 763 metres. No aquatic life exists in the lake at present.

Chamera Power Station Stage-I (540 MW) is a run-of-the-river scheme built on river Ravi, which is a major river of the Indus Basin, originating in the Himalayas from the Baira Bhanghal branch of the Dhaula Dhar Range. The project utilises the Hydro Power potential available after the confluence of the river Siul with Ravi. The project was commissioned in March 1994. On the left, one can see the Chamera Dam, with the thin stream like River Ravi in the BG.

I had, before this, never seen such blue waters. It was pristine, almost heavenly a beauty that we saw & were enchanted, hypnotised.

I wish all and everyone in TE, a wonderful, peaceful & prosperous New Year.

Blue symbolizes peace, truth, and cooperation, what we want to see in 2008. In fact for this very reason, the colour Blue is used for the flag of the United Nations and the background of the European flag.
