Photographer’s Note

This is a Bomb Shelter that is still around since World War II..

I was walking around in the farm fields of Gifu Prefecture photographing cemeteries and statues in Black & White. I was in a very small cemetery when an elderly worshper next to me smiled and pointed to the shelter. It was an actual Bomb Shelter left over from the war. My heart started to beat so fast and I got a strange feeling in my stomach. It was just there in the middle of farm land just a part of the landscape.

I really can`t thank enough the people from all small towns in Japan. They have shared so much with me all over the years. I can`t speak Japanese but it never stops me from making new friends.

I always carry a digital SLR and a Mamiya film camera on all my trips. For some reason Japanese people seem to trust and love a guy wih a Mamiya. I`ll be having dinner that was just picked out of the land that I`m walking on, drink some beer and chase it with sake that my new friends will open for me. Maybe there will be a snake in the bottle.
