Photographer’s Note
As I told you in my previous note the artist who made these sculptures is Bjørn Nørgaard. There are many statues and sculptures throughout the city of Copenhagen and only very few of them have a note on the artist of their meaning/symbolism. Finding out who the artist is took me quite some digging on the web, but once again my belief that EVERYTHING can be found on the web was confirmed; I now know the artist and thanks to Abulafia I came across an interview with Bjørn on his creations.
Apperantly this piece of art was unveiled only a year ago, in September 2006.
The sculpture in the front centre of this shot is called Eve (Adam is just outside this frame on the right) and that thing on top of the arch is called Madonna. The sculpture most on the right in this picture is Mary Magdalene and the sculpture in the far back of the pond at the foot of the arch is the Tripartite Capital.
-----
The centrepiece of the sculpture group is a 40-ton triumphal arch, on top of which stands a nine-meter genetically altered figure of the Madonna. Surrounding the Madonna are six other figures: Adam, Eve, Christ, Mary Magdalene, The Tripartite Capital and The Pregnant Man. The genetically altered Mermaid is also a part of the group, although she has a special location in the harbour on an islet of stone in the water only a few hundred meters from her older sister.
...
Paradise Genetically Altered is Bjørn Nørgaard's reflection on the genetic technologies of today's society. The artwork represents a provocative and humoristic comment on post-modern society. It is his three-dimensional statement about human beings, genetic technology, the future and a prophecy about human appearance in 100 - 200 years.

Hello,
an interesting view, but above all an interesting story. The light is good and the clearness of the photo is favorable, however in my opinion the ship in the background somewhat distracts the viewer from the art in the foreground.
Best regards, Kristof

the reflections are very enchanting. rather than the statues I find the placement of the building more interesting the building has a great wide open view.
