Photographer’s Note
The red stone in this photo is not any stone, it is Röda Sten (Red Stone), one the the more important sights of Gothenburg. The whole area here is called Röda Sten. It is a cultural area with an old building, formerly a boiler house, but now converted to a café with an art gallery and a theatre. However, this building is still the most ugly building in Gothenburg, so I did not want it to be seen here. It is somewhere to the right behind the tree.
The whole area has got its name from the red stone you can see in the centre of the photo. It has been painted red for many, many years and there are a lot of explanations to this. One is that a Swedish officer was killed by some Danes here and his blood covered the stone. Another explanation is that the stone just marked a border where the harbour began. Today the stone is painted yearly by the city of Gothenburg and many times some jokers paint white dots on it to resemble a fly agaric. Last time I was there, someone, probably some Danes, had painted a big white cross on it.
The big ship above the stone is the ferry to Kiel, Germany. It is either Stena Scandinavica or Stena Germanica. They are identical. They arrive at either port 9.00 every morning and leave again at 19.30.
The large structure across the river is the last residue of Eriksberg, one of the large shipbuilding wharfs in Gothenburg.
The bridge is of course Älvsborgsbron connecting central Gothenburg with the Hising Island.

Hej Gunnar,
Nicely converging lines of the road, the bridge and the shore on the opposite side. A pleasant Midsummer's evening light.
Hälsningar,

Hej Gunnar,
a note very rich in information which accompanies this beautiful photo very well. I like very much this composition where one can admire these old parts of the harbour which surely have seen the passing from the generations, as well as the big ships and the coloured bridge. I appreciate a lot all the details of the composition.
Kind Regards.

fascinating note and i did wonder if you should have cloned out the bright red stone..now i completely understand..useful note
i like the bridge and the ugly structures..i worked in docks as an apprentice marine fitter so i know that all this ugly looking stuff is completely friendly
i would be interested in seeing more of that building you decided not to show
many dockland areas in this country have been regenerated successfully and kept the original flavour of dockland..i worked on a project where we had to make..antiqued valves from the old days..they were made up roughly from steel plate and bar and then sprayed, allowed to rust a bit and sprayed with bitumen paint roughly
cheers
