Photographer’s Note
Timisoara, in western Romania, was the first city in Europe to have had electrical outdoor lighting - on November 12th 1884, just about 123 years ago...
To my shame, I only found this out during my 2006 Romania tour, while taking a walk through one of the city parks (hopefully the letters are readable - the sign is bilingual)
Articles in Wikipedia seem to back the claim :)
