Photographer’s Note

I've been running out of good photo stock to post, so I went through some of my old autumn shots over the weekend and happen to come across this photo which I thought was worth posting here in TE.
If I can remember, I was taking my dog for a walk back then when I came across this small natural pond with some reflections. It was an ordinary scene, but what got me interested was the old and withered cable drum which seem to compliment the autumn scene. Hope you like it.

The background is wonderful, and this drum on the first plane has really completed the picture perfectly!

That cable drum is excellent in the foreground. The colors of the rusted metal are nicely picked up again by the autumn tones and they are great. Beautifully clear and vibrant. I like the contrast of the pines against them, too and the sky and reflections are super. Nicely done!! Regards,

Maybe just an ordinary place but i see you have composed this autumn picture with very well. The tree's formation with the reflections is very nice and put the roll on the corner is very good idea, its make a beautiful combination. I like the colours and every details on this picture, thanks Renier for share it :-)

Well found and composed scene with great the colors of autumn in a clear blue sky... The cable drum is well placed and its texture and colors match that of the dry grass..

This simple composition works very well with the complimentary autumn colors that bring out the deatails so well. The reflection in the pond works very well and adds much charm to this fine image.

Hello Renier,
You have fulfilled the requirements for a good composition with the off-center drum and the adequately sized sky. The reflection is perfect. Warm colors are nice but the blue in the sky is a bit unusual. I also notice that while the image is very sharp, the sky contains artifacts, including the the tree branches. Regards,

A wonderful light for this very simple and nice composition. The colors could make us think that it's taken somewhere in Europe during these days (red leaves, naked trees characteristic from autumnal period), but it's NZ in April...

It is a quite interesting picture for the fact that shows us how we become careless about our environment. Why someone could leave that ugly thing by the pond without thinking about it? I guess it was some time ago when people were less focused in keeping the environment clean.
The photo is very good in compo and colours. Even being ugly, the definition on the drum is excellent and the textures are very good. Well done?

This beautiful composition is perfectly suited to the square format. I like the inclusion of the cable drum in the near foreground, which should be at odds but is yet entirely in harmony with the autumn backdrop. Excellent colours and clarity.

But soon as there's any sign of human presence pictures getting more exciting, without the cable drum this would have been a fine but ordinary autumn image and know it goes to an other dimension.

Absolute malplcement for this cable drum in this little landscape detail of the pond and and impression of the fall. On the other hand just the detail one sometimes can use to make add a little extra to the compo. Good idea Renier

you certainly found the right foreground element to make this a very interesting and funny post. The shaprness is perfect to appreciate all the texture of the whitered wood.
Quite funny to realize that you're presenting us a autum shot of the southern hemisphere while TE is being swamped with autumnal shots from the northern hemisphere. Come on, shows us spring! Don't let us forget the beauty that is happening at the other side of the globe.

Hi Renier, nice autumnal composition, the cable drum is perfectly placed in the frame but maybe it was possible to step to the left and reframe the shot so that it wouldn't obstruct the tree reflection. For all the rest - very good, I like the wood textures on the drum!
