Photographer’s Note
Yesterday a glacier. Today a volcano. Iceland is indeed full of contrasts. The stellar sunshine produced some very vivid colours. Could have used a wideer angle than my 18mm (28 equivalent). But I thin that I succeeded in at least suggesting the contours of this dramatic crater lake.
The bright green at by the lakeside is moss thriwing in the volcanic soil. The red colours on along the side are due to vast amounts of iron in it.
I was shoting into the light one this one. But I don't really mind hte burned out sky.

Hi Mikkel
A good POV and vertical framing on this amazing place. Nice red and black colors on the crater's slopes... i think you should have chosen a faster shutter speed to avoid the OE of the sky, but it is a good view anyway

This is a nice composition Mikkel but the eye always goes to the lightest part of an image first. In this case it is the sky. This a situation for a graduated grey filter to tone down the sky. If you had shot in RAW you might be able to recover some detail.

Hi Mikkel,
This is an amazing place to photograph with all those colours. However, I think you should have chosen a tighter frame and cropped the sky altogether - it is so uninteresting. It would be definitely more impressive if the photo were heavy on the side of red rocks, whose texture is fascinating, and the blue lake.

another spectacular landscape!! Iceland seems to cater for them plentifully! great play with the washed white sky versus the metallic blue waters... On the contrary, i do appreciate the white washed sky for it brings a surreal touch to the whole scenary! You did well!

Mikkel,
that is a very interesting shot. I just have been 2 months ago at Crater Lake in Oregon and my only post of this place at TE is an extremely similar to your composition. Check it out and you will see why I'm so amazed.
The colors of the wall and the rocks in the foreground are most beautifull. I just feel sorry for that overexposed sky and partially overexposed lake. What happened there? Did you do this on purpose? I guess that a polarizing filter might have helped you out as well as an additional ND grad filter to tone down the light in the sky.
Regards, Peter
