Photographer’s Note
Just before sunset this beautiful Heron landed above me in a large tree. The lighting wasn't all that good but I think the picture came out well under the circumstances. I particularly like the DoF of the leaves at the back and the clarity of it's yellow eye. I cropped the photo a bit on the sides and applied some sharpening.

Absolutely lovely. The crisp focus (in bird photography the eye always has to be in focus) is excellent.
I debated about the out-of-focus background and decided that it was best left as is. One could delete it entirely to make this super simple and dramatic, but I think it is better left in. Even with it, there is a Japanese watercolour simplicity to this image that is very pleasing.

I think you can be really satisfied with the result you got - the details in the heron's plumage are superbly rendered, and you got a fine posting of him sitting on the diagonal branch, and his beak pointing in kind of the opposite diagonal direction. Very good one, Jannie.

As mentioned previously. I also really like the DOF. It really pulls the attention to the bird.
Great Capture

Grey Heron, very well captured - ons Bloureier. Did you try a bit of fill flash to lighten up the belly? Overall, I am very ipressed with the texture of the plumage.
Enjoy the trip to KNP! We are goiing DV in September.

Very good catch of this night heron, take notice, you have a lot of purple fringing at the edges.
