Photographer’s Note

This was taken at the zocalo at Mexico City. Celebrations seem to be part of Mexicans' daily life. I would see some sort of ceremony or events every other day. This one by far captures me most. The sound from the shoes which are made of shells from nuts, the drums, the costumes, and of course the whole atmosphere. I stood there for a couple of hours, completely mesmerize.
At one point, as the ceremony was going on, there was a mild protest on the other side; and then at abotu 6pm, the lowering of the flags took place as well. A very interesting dynamic.
The thing I find challenging in taking this sort of pictures is the timing. Setting it on continous doesn't neccessary do the trick. You also have to observe and somewhat predict the next move! Think fast and think ahead!

(A snog to anyone who can tell me what this celebration is all about!)
