I simply love the sharpness of the man. It works marvels against a BG that seems to melt into a mess of grey. Truly lovely.
However I am not quite convinced of the centring you chose for him. I don't mind the fact that he is in the horizontal centre of the image, but I would have panned upwards to push him closer to the edge of the image and to get a bit more of the BG in the higher distance.
The other option, that I believe would have worked very well as well, would have been to take a vertical approach to include his faint reflection on the wet pavement. I think it would have added to this grey mood brilliantly all the while you would have been able to keep quite a bit of the context in the image.
Had I not already spent my 2 WS limit for the day, I would have proposed a more panoramic WS of the image: crop a bit from the bottom to focus more on the man and the contrast between him and the BG.
All in all, a great posture well captured ;-)
TFS !
All the best,
Julia
p.s. how is Japan ? I'm heading there in less than a week ;-)

A fine shot, but would agree with leiju about the centring of the man. Strange to say, but it seems to unbalance the composition! Otherwise, I think the capture of detail is first rate. the man, pavement and taxi are really well captured, not easy in these conditions.
One other thing I noticed is that the mans reflection is also quite interesting, and although you may not have it in the original, maybe something for next time (i.e. catch all the reflection, and have less at the top)?
All the best.

Hi Mike, this whole me-against-the-world feeling you've captured here strikes a cord with me, as that man there was me just a few years ago in the very same city so I can feel sense his feelings very strongly. I guess that personal tie I have to it makes me think this central location of the man work for me in this case. Rainy days in Tokyo can be very gray, so B&W here was a good choice as well I thought. TFS!

Hello Mike,
Nice photography with a perfect composition obtained by the diagonals lines of the trees and the pedestrian crossing that directs the view towards the head of the man. The use of the black and white one give it a intemporal value him. Congratulations, Pepe
