Photographer’s Note
Jame' mosque of Yazd:
The 12th century mosque is still in use today. It
was first built under /Ala'oddoleh Garshasb/ of the
Al-e Bouyeh dynasty. The mosque was largely rebuilt
between 1324CE and 1365CE, and is one of the
outstanding 14th century buildings of Iran. The
mosque is a fine specimen of the Azari style of
Persian architecture . The mosque is crowned by a
pair of minarets , the highest in Persia, and the
portal's facade is decorated from top to bottom in
dazzling tile work, predominantly blue in colour.
Within is a long arcaded courtyard where, behind a
deep-set south-east iwan , is a sanctuary chamber
(shabestan ). This chamber, under a squat tiled
dome, is exquisitely decorated with faience mosaic:
its tall faience Mihrab , dated 1365CE, is one of
the finest of its kind in existence. The 800 year
old Masjed-i Jame' mosque of Yazd has one of the
tallest minarets among Persian mosques.
The Mihrab and part of the chamber are seen in
this photograph.

Hi Atousa,
Beautiful, majestic but in a 'heavy' way, as only mosques can be! A wonderful shot, very pleasant to the eye and spirit. It's so well balanced that the perspective distortion caused by the pov doesn't disturb a bit. The women give scale and a nice sign of life.
I hope you don't get offended with what I am about to write, as I have no intention of doing it and I have a deep respect for the reasons of it, but let me tell you that one of the things that makes me much sad when I visit Muslim countries is the fact that I can't enter the mosques. On the few occasions I had such opportunity, I experienced a kind of peaceful and spiritual atmosphere that I had never felt anywhere else; not to mention the absolute beauty.
Regards, José.

Salam Atousa, you represented well the grandeur of this beautiful building, which reminds me good moments, as I spent more than a week in that city (in a guest house very close to this mosque, my room had a view on it) in 2004...

Hello Atousa,
I've heard a lot about Yazd, and this photo shows why. The delicate art and the beautiful colors are well presented. I like the near perfect symmetry in your composition. Just wish the two ladies were closer to the camera. Regards,
Hakan

Hi Atousa - the wide angle has done the interior justice (what was the focal length?), the presence of people helps give scale, and they are distant enough to not be distracting, well done.

I am always blown away by Islamic architecture. The love for the details, the colors, the intricate designs are always so beautiful. You have captured all this here in a very effective way and including those two people by the door was indeed a great move. That way we can really see how big the structure is. Great one.

Hi Atousa, it's too bad that the light is not more contrasted because the image is interesting, it would give a nicer aspect to the structures...

Hi Arousa!
I missed this one! It is a great view in a magnificent Mosque.
POV sharpness and framing are excellent. I think we can try to make it look even better (perspective and exposure) See in the WS i done.
Friendly regards

Dear Atousa,
You have presented the beauty besides historical aspect of the scene perfectly.
What I suggest is to crop a little bit from the bottom of the phot. Furthermore, you could have used a bigger F Stop so that the whole monument would be sharp and entirely focused.
Wish you success

Gran foto. El trabajo en azulejo persa en combinación con el ladrillo amarillo, exquisito. Magnífico. Recuerda a los colores de la tierra y el cielo.
El encuadre es muy bueno, y resalta el gran arco principal.
