Photographer’s Note
In the afternoon warm air is rising from egremni beach, situated on the other side of the peninsula. On the shady side it cools off and falls down to vassiliki bay. It´s very rare that humidity is high enough to see it like on the photo. Then the air flows across the bay to be heatened again on the second peninsula. Finally the air is circulating in a tubular motion between the two peninsulas, getting stronger and stronger.

Nice to read about this phenomenon in this and your previous post from Lefkada. I've visited this island last year and know about the wind ever blowing in Vassiliki bay, hence the large numbers of watersporters doing their tricks there. But as said, interesting to read about the phenomenon you're talking about and even see it visually, really nice. Well captured with a good composition, the sloping hill through the frame works well. Good job.

Nice photo of Lefkatas mountain
Lefkatas is the mountain where renowned Greek female poet Sappho allegedly leapt to her death from the 100 foot (30m) high cliffs. There are spectacular views across to Ithaca and Kefalonia in the south, however the 16km (10 mile) unpaved road is enough to put off all but the most determined.

An excellent weather phenomenon photo, which creatates a really eerie effect, even stranger with the otherwise totally clear skies.

Thanks for the very good explanation and cool photo, I've always wondered what's up with the wind at Vass.!

Hi,
you have a stunning gallery and I honestly didn't know where to start. I chose this one because it's such a familiar place (my mother is from Agios Petros, the village that would be on your right and back when you took this photograph - but I see you have already covered this subject with my cousin, gbeli) and yet this is an image I have never seen in all the years I have been visiting the place. Of course I know of the wind that's every windsurfer's dream and its cause, even I have tried to take advantage of it (not very succesfully I'm affraid), but I have never seen it visualize in the form of a moving fog sliding down the mountain side. Trully a unique image.
Cheers, Ioanna
PS You may know that Vassiliki's afternoon wind even has a name, it's friends call it Eric. :)
