Whirlpool Aero Car Photo

Photographer’s Note

Along our bike ride on the Niagara Falls Parkway we came across this, and no I did NOT ride on it ..:o)

The Aero car was designed by a Spanish engineer, Leonardo Torres Quevedo and has been in operation since 1916. The cable car is suspended from six sturdy cables and offers a wonderful view of the Niagara Whirlpool which is formed at the end of the rapids where the gorge turns abruptly counterclockwise and the river escapes through the narrowest channel in the gorge.
The aerial cable car travels safely between two different points of the Canadian shore of the Niagara River over the spectacular Whirlpool.
A round trip is about one kilometer (3,600 feet) and takes about 10 minutes to navigate.
The capacity of the car is 35 standing passengers.

Hi Donna,
Your picture is really exciting, with a lot of action and a sense of danger. I like the composition with the cables and car on one half of the image. Is the whiter water a little over exposed?

I love the composition; The way the cables lead to the brightly colored aero car. I also like the way the color of the river and the color of the aero car compliment each other so well. Very nice work.

An original way to cross the river. This is surely a very exciting experience, but I also understand that you did not try it. The water below has a strange but exciting green color.

Hi Donna,
Nice documentary shot, well chosen POV and the green water is a standout. Incidentally basic version of these cable cars are used in the Himalayas where usually only two cables are used to carry these makeshift ropeways.

This is really a wonderul picture, and good note also. This ropeway must be risky, the water is below is looks very fast. Nice picture, good compostion, sea-green colour is my fav also.

I visited Niagara Falls about 35 years ago, but I remember what an awesome place that was! I love the POV you've chose to show us the Aero Car with the cables leading our eye into the scene up to the brightly colored car. The color of the water is just beautiful and one can really reel the force of the rapids here.

first of all I must admit the color of the water has fancied me . also looking at this aero car has made me think it would be a great adventure to take photos from inside , unless it has windows :( . If I had nothing to lose , I would risk my life and ride on it

Well composed and very impressive river view. The cablers form diagonal lines in the comnposition, and drive the eyes to the colourfil cable car.
