Intrigued as I was by all the thatched cottages that still abound in Ireland, I could not resist but to get up close and personal with one of these...

The density and surprisingly solid nature of the thatch, keeping the warmth in and the dampness out of the buildings that don these interesting forms of roofing is quite impressive.

This is an angle you won't see that often. I do believe it is a good illustration of the consistency of the material at hand.

Used one of those disposable cameras for this shot. No filters, tripods or flash. None of your inner demons here. Just resized to below 800 pixels wide. No pp work, just one shot. One roof.
