Photographer’s Note
On a family trip to Playa Del Carmen Mexico I went out to take some night shots the day after a full moon, it was so bright that it was great to shoot at night as everything came out so bright. I walked aroud the resort beach and came across this leftover sand castle that wasn't knocked downby guests or the the clean up staff. The yellow light on the tree is from the lights of the resort, the rest is from the moon which is just out of frame on the top left.
Here is how I generally set up my night shots. I find something in the far distance to focus, generally the moon and then put the focus on manual, if its to dark to find something I set it to infinity. Next I set the white balance to tungsten, which makes the skies blue or purplish instead of red. Next I set the aperture as wide open as possible, in the case of this shot with my Sigma 10-20 the aperture was f4 shot at 10 mm.
PP: Just some curves and selective color adjustments, USM.
When posting images here are we allowed to dodge and burn? Thanks for looking, I like this site :)

Hi Joe
Thank you for the detailed explanation of how you shoot these nightshots.
Why the wide aperture? I would have assumed that you would choose a smaller one to get a better focus throughout the shot, not that you didn't succeed in that here.
I love your shot by the way.

Wow. This is night time with a full moon? It must've been when the moon was closest to the Earth, because this is very bright! I love it. I love the exposure especially. It's a mix between a night/day photo IMO. Very neat. I am feeling this Sigma 10-20. Looks great!
