Photographer’s Note
so here it is, my very first attempt at a night shot, similar to ones i've long admired here on TE. taken from southbank, looking towards brisbane's cbd. it took me a while to get a result that i was happy with, but i think it's not too bad.
as for the title, i was shooting away and an old chinese man stopped behind me and looked at my lcd screen as i was looking at a shot i'd just taken. i stepped back and showed him. he bent down, looked, smiled and nodded, then walked away. good enough for me!

First at bat after a long winter off and you hit it out of the park. Not too shabby at all. In fact where could one possibly lay fault!
Beautifully smooth texture throughout the waterfront that reflects the skyline. I find that there are some wonderful scenes on TE (like the one you have portrayed) where the photographer leaves slivers of buildings cropped or otherwise on the sides of the frame detracting from the scene. Yours is well balanced from left to right - kudos!
Very sharp/crisp scene - great job all around with this attempt. Waiting for more!

Hello Craig,
Terrific first night shot. Exposure is just about right resuling in this mighty fine night scene of Brisbane. Good work, and best wishes - Danilo

Same Same but better, I would say! What sets this photo apart from say mine or any other on TE would be the fact that you chose a great location with many interesting colors and textures. I was going to recommend a bit more sharpening but I think that it would destroy the of the sky in the background.

Hi Craig, very nice start to your night collection. The water looks like a velvet so I'm guessing it was a little rough and your 30 seconds smoothed it out. Still you have very good reflection from the lights on the water. Very good composition and very good control on the lighting throughout.
Thanks, John

Hi Craig
A superb result for a 1st attempt with good colour & sharpness. How long has Hitachi replaced MLC?

i like the lights on the river and the nice crop ... you've kept the scene nice and tight. there's not too much blown out either, which is well done.
good effort!

Hi Craig,
The colours, as well as the reflections of course, are stunning! Very nice POV, the clarity of this pic is very good!
Looks like a bustling city, one that struggles to sleep :)

Costa.

Hi Graig,
I walked all over this great place today and most probably walked directly through this shot. I have always been a greater fan of the Story Bridge/Kangaroo Point skyline of the city, this being where the taller buildings are at a closer density. It is a great scene. But more and more now, with images like this to help, I like this southern aspect, with the inclusion of the Brisbane Square tower and soon to be Vision. I like the complementary colours provided by the Commissariat Stores and the Treasury Casino. The MLC tower’s weather beacon always ruins a city photo for me, with it’s overpowering beam, but you have changed it into a bit of a feature. The green of 111 George St and blue of Casino Towers all together complete the spectrum of light bordered by the SE Expressway. Brisbane in a rhapsody of colour. I like it.

Bonjour Craig,
Très belle maitrise de la lumière qui fait resplendir les couleurs et ressortir les détails.
A bientôt sur TE pour de nouvelles aventures.
